Your newborn's reflexes aren't random โ they're wired in for a reason. ๐ง
Most parents recognize the Moro (startle) reflex. But two others are just as important and far less known:
๐คบ ATNR ("fencer" reflex) โ helps baby move through the birth canal, should integrate ~6 months
๐ฃ STNR โ helps baby transition to hands-and-knees, key for crawling, should integrate 8-11 months
These reflexes are meant to show up, do their job, then fade right on schedule as baby hits new milestones. When one lingers, it can be a sign the nervous system needs a little support.
That's why we check reflexes at every newborn & pediatric visit โ even when everything looks fine. ๐ถ
