Bourbon County’s IRON HONOR took second, just a length short, in the 2026 for breeders Pat Freeny and Mike Freeny of Dunquin Farm and Shawhan Place’s THE HELL WE DID was seventh. The fourth horse in the this year is the 9 to 2 Morning Line Favorite (drum roll please)....IRON HONOR. He was bred by beloved Bourbon Countians Pat Freeny and Mike Freeny and raised on their Dunquin Farm. Sadly Pat passed away in October of 's yearling year and Mike followed her in November 2025. We daresay a whole lotta Bourbon County will be watching this year's race!

The third horse in this year's is CRUPPER, named for Keith Crupper, manager of (now known as Crupper Bloodstock) where the c**t was born and raised. Here's his story:

Trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel said that he confirmed the Preakness Stakes (G1) commitment for Junior Alvarado to ride Crupper in the May 16 middle jewel of the Triple Crown being held this year at Laurel Park.

To Derby or not to Derby. It’s an interesting predicament facing trainers who have horses “on the cusp” of the leaderboard earning points to be a Kentucky Derby contender. Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas was famous for his, “You can't win it if you're not in it” philosophy.
