Why use 3rd party accessibility consultant?
In this time of limited supplies and increasing costs why would you add the cost of a 3rd accessibility party consultant? The cost for an accessibility consultant results in a significant return very quickly. A construction review by a 3rd party focused solely on accessibility will identify issues within the construction drawings that are missing or not clear.
How does identifying key issues on a construction drawing set save money? Think about the cost to relocate one sign because the construction drawings were not specific as to the installation height. The cost is say $100 by the time you remove, reinstall and patch the initial location. Not a large cost for one sign. However, apply that cost to 20 signs or even 100 signs and you have paid for that construction plan review.
In our years of experience completing plan reviews there has always been issues identified on each set of drawings. Some are small like the sign example and some are large like a site grading issue.
When identified prior to construction it is the revision of notes and lines on paper at the cost of some time. When identified after construction, the result is time, materials and aggravation which equal lost revenue and confidence for the Owner, Designer and/ or Contractor.
