A bigger coat hides your gun better. It also hides it from you.
Have you ever drawn through your winter coat? Zipped? With gloves on? Seated in the car with the seatbelt on?
If the answer is no, find out now, unloaded, at home. Not on the day you need it.
And slow down on the reholster. A coat hem or drawstring in the trigger guard is how winter accidents happen. Clear the coat, look the gun into the holster, never force it.

"Very few instructors will I recommend... but John is on my list."

That's T.J. Young of Homefield Defense. He teaches in-home and in-workplace critical incident tactics, and he doesn't hand out recommendations. He sat down with me, looked in on one of my CCW classes, and wrote that there are only three instructors he currently endorses.

Thank you, T.J. That one means a lot coming from another instructor.

His point is the one I'd make too: get out there and take responsible, well-educated training. If you've been putting off your permit, the next class is the place to start.

The days are getting shorter. Your walk to the car isn't.

Clocks fall back Sunday, November 1. On class day the sun sets at 4:53 PM. Same parking lot after work, same walk across it, same distance from the door. Just no light to do it in.

That's not a reason to be afraid. It's a reason to be ready, and ready is a skill you can build in one day.

Full-day Concealed Carry Weapons certification. This is the class that meets Colorado's training requirement for your permit. Classroom in the morning, live-fire qualification to close.
