LCI is working in Jefferson City, MO this month!
A noticeable feature of the landscape is the Missouri River, which winds its way gracefully through town. It passes right alongside the Missouri State Capitol building, which offers commanding views from its interiors. Completed in 1917, the building is an example of the Roman Renaissance/Classical Revival style. Its dome was inspired by the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. At the very top stands Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, a bronze sculpture honoring Missouri’s deep agricultural roots.
Today, the Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of the state’s most beloved attractions. Whether you’re walking the riverfront or catching a sunset over the water, the Capitol and the Missouri River are always part of the view.
