Happiest of birthdays to MOV Chamber Board Chair Chip Ferrell (United Bank) and Board member Benton Walker (Parkersburg YMCA)!

We enjoyed celebrating with them at yesterday’s Board meeting. And by celebrating, I mean noshing on these yummy cakes!! 😉

Chip’s birthday is today and Benton’s was on Sunday.

Every day we get a missed call from a phone number that says West Union, WV on the Caller ID. ☎️

I don't call back the number because it's likely a spoofed number (if it was important, they would leave a voicemail and they never do.)

A spoofed number is what happens when bad actors use what looks like a local number with hopes that you'll answer the phone. They are not actually calling from that number. It just looks like it on Caller ID.

If I did call back the spoofed number, I would likely be calling back a complete STRANGER who actually has that number and they will have no idea why I'm calling and asking why they just called me.

I was just the STRANGER in this scenario.

Our phone rang.

I answered "Chamber of Commerce, how can I help you?"

A young man said "You just called me."

I replied, "No, sorry, I didn't call you. Someone must have spoofed our number."

"No, you just called me. Who is this?"

"You've reached the Chamber of Commerce in Parkersburg (which is how I answered the phone but apparently he wasn't listening) and I promise you, I did not call you."

After trying to argue with me that I indeed called him, he said something snarky and hung up on me.

So, here's my tip of the day:

Don't call back a number that calls you if you don't recognize the number, or it's not in your contacts. If it were important, they'd leave a voicemail.

Also, don't call a complete nice stranger a liar and then hang up on her when she is trying to explain what happened.

Arghhhh!! 🤦‍♀️

Everyone, say “hi” to Don and Jamie with B. Armstrong Electrical Services. 👋

They were my office mates over the past day, replacing all the overhead lights with new LED units. It was great to have some company here as I’ve not had anyone to talk to in the office since Andrea moved to NC.

Chat and laugh WE did!

And work hard THEY did!

Well, I worked hard too just not on ladders up in the ceiling tiles 😁

Our office looks amazing with the new light fixtures. And you almost need sunglasses out in the hallway, it’s so bright. 😎

Thank you to the leadership and maintenance team here at United Bank for the investment you made in these upgrades!

Can you have them come back and visit again next week??? I have more talking to do LOL!

Today’s Chamber Champions activities started with lunch at MOV Chamber member JP Henry's - where we shared plenty of laughs, caught up with one another and talked about all the great things our Champions have planned for the rest of the year (plus a few ideas for 2027)! 💙

Then we headed to B Strong Fitness to welcome one of our newest Chamber members and tour the facility with owner Brianna Owen. With another Brianna on staff there, we quickly decided they must only hire people named Brianna! 😂 But then Claire, the yoga instructor, stopped by and quickly dispelled that rumor...

B Strong Fitness offers exercise classes and personal training, in addition to a fully stocked workout room with a great assortment of exercise equipment. And don't forget the 24/7 gym access! We may be a little late sharing these sweet photos from our August Cash MOB at Mountain State Creamery, but the smiles were too good to keep to ourselves! Several participants were visiting for the very first time, which is exactly what our Cash MOB is all about: discovering Chamber members, supporting local businesses and having a little fun along the way.

🛍️ Today—Wednesday, September 9 at 4pm—we’re doing it again! Join us at Smith & Company in South Parkersburg (2107 Pike Street/Southgate Shopping Center), explore the many vendors throughout the mall and spend at least $10 to show some local love.

Whether it’s your first visit or one of your favorite places to shop, come help us make an impact—one $10 purchase at a time! 💵❤️
