Thermal Tuesday 🔥

A great find by our team this week. A poor panel bus connection and internal breaker problem caused a temperature rise of 144.8°F.

Fun fact: Inspections are done on energized equipment, which saves downtime and money (and keeps managers happy).

The Most Expensive Repair is usually the one you didn't see coming.

A temperature increase like the one shown here often points to a loose connection. The pivot hinge point is loose, causing a poor connection between the moveable blade and stationary contact. Temperatures exceeded 225° on this one phase.

Finding it early can mean the difference between a planned repair and an unexpected shutdown.

🔥Hot, hot, hot 🔥

This equipment hadn't been looked at until the day we walked in. The wire connection on B phase is visually burned. Today's find shows the value of a consistent preventative maintenance plan.

Temperatures rising over 100° on this loose wire lug connection. What a find!

This thermal image reveals a component operating significantly hotter than the surrounding equipment, a warning sign that something isn't right.

You can't see this problem with the naked eye but there is close to 160° temperature rise between these wires.

This high resistance connection simply required the client to clean and tighten all related connections. Finding issues like this during routine maintenance allows repairs to be scheduled before they become costly failures or safety hazards.

🔥Thermal Thursday Find:

This equipment was still operating.

No smoke.
No sparks.
No outage.

Yet the infrared camera identified a significant temperature rise of 81.1°. That indicated a developing problem.

Routine thermal inspections help catch issues before they become emergencies.

Fun Fact 🔥

Electrical fires rarely start without warning. Excess heat often builds over time, and infrared inspections help identify those hot spots before they become serious hazards.

In this case, a loose wire connection and worn fuse jaws caused temperatures to climb to nearly 900°F, a 640°F temperature rise on one phase. Replacing the faulty fuse corrected the issue and restored the equipment to safe operating conditions.

Early detection makes all the difference.

🔥Thermal Thursday

End of the day find, and it was a doozie! Loose fuse clips caused a 173.8° temperature rise. Poor electrical maintenance increases arc flash risk. NFPA 70B directly addresses that.
