Kudos to the stained glass artists that build and/or repair lamps. I got a request to repair this lamp that had fallen off a table and received substantial damage. It literally sat on my table for 6 months before I finally decided it’s time had come. Stained glass repairs are never pleasant, and when you add in the fact that this was my first time doing lamp work, I heartily admit that I had my hands full. What started as 9 broken pieces soon turned into 23 - as I would take out one piece, a couple others would crack from the stress of the fall. The owner said not to stress myself over it - she would turn it into salvage material - but by this time it had became a challenge - it was either me or the lamp.

Thankfully, it is finally all back together. Is it perfect - definitely not, but it was quite the learning experience.

Thanks to Dustin McCarty for creating a powerful video that brings his dad’s memorial project to life. Starting with the original photo of Dustin, his brother, and their father on the last West Virginia trip they were able to take together, the pictures flow through to completion of the project. My heartfelt condolences to Dustin and his family on the loss of their family patriarch. 💕

After 6-1/2 hours and three pounds of solder, the soldering is now complete. Next will come a frame and then patina to turn those silver solder lines black and make all the colors pop.

And now no more photos (except for a few sneak previews) until the owner has a chance to see it in person in a month or so.

Today is solder day - getting closer to having this piece completed!

For me, soldering was originally the hardest part of learning stained glass. It took a lot of practice and time to get a consistent, raised bead. Now it is one of my favorite parts of the process. Plus, once the solder is complete, it is time to hold it up and see “first light” with the sun shining through it. Happy Monday everyone ☀️
