Today is Heidi’s [Heidi Schmidt for Delegate, District 31] birthday! 🎂 The first since kicking off her campaign for delegate last year.

Birthdays have always been important in our family. They’re sort of a rolling holiday starting with our son Ethan in March and ending with my birthday in May. As with so many things, Heidi holds it all together in between.

Heidi is many things — a wife, a mother, a small business owner, a volunteer in our community — she was also the first in her family to graduate from college. She’s generous with her time, she’s passionate, and when she makes a commitment she goes all in. She once decided to run a marathon; she’s completed four and is talking about number five.

Suffice it to say, I married up.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans and those across the globe who today still struggle for freedom.

I encourage you to take a moment to reread our Declaration of Independence this weekend. It's an inherently revolutionary document that declares universal rights that is as true today as it was when it was written 244 years ago.
