Roughly 40% of all generator breakdowns originate from stator insulation degradation, while 15% of all generator rotor issues are the result of insulation and tape failures, including insulation lifting, tape failure, delamination, shorts, and partial discharge.

Planned maintenance outages are essential—don’t let unexpected downtime leave your operations dead in the water. H&N Wind™ can help inspect, run diagnostics, and repair your generators, helping to ensure that everything from bearings to winding insulation maintains peak operational performance. Below are some common faults in winding insulation to look for:

- Phase to phase faults: insulation between the coils is damaged or deteriorated.
- Phase to ground faults: insulation on the outside of the coils is damaged, between the coil and stator core.
- Turn to turn shorts: insulation in the same coil is damaged.

That’s a wrap on our second installment of Wind Generator 101!
