As just the second release under Hawks Hill Ranch’s Open Outcry label, Pit of Chaos represents our passion for crafting boundary breaking wines sourced beyond our estate from exceptional vineyards that deserve to be celebrated.
When highly coveted fruit from Bailey Ranch Vineyard, home to some of San Luis Obispo County’s oldest Chenin Blanc vines, became available, we knew the opportunity was too special to pass by.
The name Pit of Chaos pays homage to the legendary trading floor of the Chicago Board of Trade where our founder, Kit Kuyper, built his career. It is a nod to recognizing opportunity, embracing calculated risk, and trusting conviction when the right moment arrives.
Hand harvested and aged for 14 months in neutral French oak, this inaugural Chenin Blanc showcases vibrant orchard fruit, brilliant acidity, and the finesse that has made this remarkable variety a favorite among those in the know.
