I don’t post much here because I stay busy posting for clients, but this pile of print materials was on my workspace this morning, and it’s a fun little snapshot of what I’ve worked on in the past few months.

Editing and proofing are where my focus started, but visual design is where my creativity comes alive, and where I’ve been flexing, learning, and growing recently.

Actually, Jerry, proofing our own work is the hardest proofing job there is, so let's cut them a little slack.

When it matters (and it always matters), bring in fresh eyes on a project before you send it out into the world. The way you write is part of your brand; your writing represents your product and yourself.

I don't promise perfection, but I do promise to get as close as possible. And I certainly do better than this! I've been proofing and editing since high school, so I have a bit of experience. I don't claim to know all the rules, but I do seek out sources to help me when I'm not sure.

(Side note: do you see more errors than what is marked up? I do.)

I saw this sign several years ago in a parking lot in SLC. The sight of it still makes me cringe. Before you send your work to a print shop, touch base with a proofreader.
