I love it that companies research home organization facts. I have never been a numbers person, but when looking at the numerical facts I feel inspired.

Last month I gave the challenge to include children in closet management. I found an encouraging article with great statistics.

Here is an excerpt:

“In the average home, getting rid of clutter would eliminate approximately 40 percent of housework.”

The Daily Mail estimated we will each spend more than 3,600 hours in our lifetime searching for misplaced items. There were not separate numbers totaling the time spent looking for a child’s favorite blanket or toy. If nothing else, consider the frustration and minutes saved when there truly is a place for everything and everything in its place.”

Our children are grown now but I sure remember hunting for shoes, books, favorite toys etc. What a delight it would be to have 40% more free time to do what I love instead of cleaning and
searching for lost items.

Take a deep breath today and realize that whatever job is before you, there is statistical evidence that pursuing order will give you back time, energy and peace of mind.

“The secret of all victory lies in the organization of the non-obvious.” - Marcus Aurelius.

This week we are going to take a peek at the “hidden” places in our homes. Sometimes it’s the little things that nip at our heels and aggravate us. The quote above indicates that if we want victory, then we need to be willing to tackle the non-obvious.

So far we have focused on the larger, more prominent places in the home. What about the junk drawer? It’s closed most the time so who really cares, right?

How about the small drawer in the bathroom that has hair clips, toothpaste, rubber bands, dental floss, jewelry etc? There are probably a couple random items as well like a spoon, pen or paperclip.

You may be thinking…has she been to my house? Lol. No! But I have my own drawers and experience all the same build up that you do.

This week, each day take a small drawer and quickly clean it out. These spaces are so manageable but we tend to just live with it. I encourage you to give some effort to these non-obvious places. It will definitely help you to achieve victory in the long run!!

“Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.” - Nathan W. Morris

August is my birthday month! So naturally it has me thinking about my life…my masterpiece.

When I think about editing my life, there are many ideas that come to mind. Editing my home seems easy compared to my character and personal disciplines.

For myself, this week I am choosing to intentionally edit one area of my personal life and one area of my home. The first step is to acknowledge what I want to change. Next, I need to make a plan. It is always best to share you plan with a friend to hold you accountable. And finally, implement the plan.

Don’t be afraid to edit!! The correction does not need to be a major issue. Change is like the rudder of a ship that slowly steers the boat in the intended direction. The goal is to change a small part of myself and home and work to maintain it for a year. By slowly turning the course of my life, I will be on my way to becoming a more peaceful and productive individual.

Will you join me?

Each day this week, spend a few moments and intentionally pursue personal freedom by building healthy habits into your life.

F- Find time to do something you love.

R- Reach out to someone in need and show him or her a kindness.

E- Encourage a family member with a note or small gift.

E- Examine your heart and get rid of all old hang-ups that do not belong.

D- Do something you do not like to do just for the discipline.

O- Organize your thoughts on a piece of paper from most important to least.

M- Memorize a Bible verse or quote that brings you hope.

People are so much more valuable than things….YOU included. Enjoy your week loving yourself and others
