Major Airline Pilot Profit Sharing Values Continue Strong in 2026

Adding $650k to an Average 30-Year Career in 2025. Another good year for those airlines with pilot profit-sharing programs, averaging 4.6% of annual wages in 2025 and 5.4% of wages since 2010.

The average percentage is expected to continue to remain strong. I have used the 19-year average of 5.4% as an estimate of AA’s future values. Profit sharing is not guaranteed, but past amounts have ranged from 0% for most airlines in the early 2000’s to 21.5% for Delta back in 2015. The max value would yield over $25,000 for a new hire at Delta today and almost $100,000 for a senior wide-body Captain. Certainly adds a real incentive to save gas and be on time if that can be done safely.

Profits are good for more than a higher income that year. An airline that is consistently profitable can buy more planes, fly new routes, and we get to fly those routes and planes. Profits are also the key to long, stable careers, insulating airlines and employees from the ups and downs in the market. The airlines have become much better at managing their operations to profitability, even in uncertain times. These values are in addition to the career values I normally provide, which are straight career pay, benefits, and retirement numbers.

I am still looking for the profit-sharing history at other airlines with these plans, including Allegiant, Atlas, and JetBlue.

Assumptions:
11 years to Captain
Aircraft progression based on the current fleet.
Average hours per month: 84 hours/month, and ranges from 70 to 91 based on the airline.
International override on a percentage of widebody flying.

Not Included:
No future pay increases for the current or new contracts beyond 2026.
No extra flying.
No premium flying.
No retro pay.
Company-paid Social Security contributions – 6.2% of up to $184,500 in 2026.

It’s still a great time to be or become an airline pilot!

If you have a career delay or loss, I can put a dollar value on that for you.
