Power Outage Update

We are aware of the power outage currently affecting the Borough. Please be advised that the source of the outage is on the Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) system.

Our Borough Electric Department has been out on the scene and has communicated directly with Jersey Central crews. Additionally, the Pemberton Borough Office of Emergency Management is in ongoing communication with our designated JCP&L point of contact. We are currently awaiting an official restoration timeframe.

We will provide an update as soon as a timeframe becomes available. If the outage is expected to be extended, the Borough is prepared to open cooling centers for residents.

Thank you for your patience as we work to get more information.

⚡ POWER RESTORATION UPDATE: Pemberton Borough

We have just concluded a briefing with Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) regarding the ongoing outages. We want to provide you with a clear picture of their current restoration strategy and how it affects us.

The Restoration Strategy
JCP&L is currently prioritizing "large-scale" outages—specifically those affecting 1,000 or more customers. Once these high-customer outages are restored, crews will immediately transition to addressing outages in the "hundreds" and smaller localized groups.

Our Connection to the Grid
While we operate our own Pemberton Borough Electric Department, our system is fed directly by JCP&L. Consequently, any disruptions on their transmission lines directly impact our local service. We are working in lockstep with their teams to ensure our Borough remains a priority.

Estimated Timeframe
JCP&L is aiming for restoration within the next few hours; however, they cannot guarantee a specific time at this moment. The outages are the result of multiple complex issues across the grid rather than a single isolated incident, requiring a more technical and time-consuming repair process.

Safety & Comfort
Your safety is our primary concern. We are closely monitoring local temperatures and are prepared to activate warming centers should the need arise.
Next Steps:
• We will continue to advocate for Pemberton Borough with JCP&L leadership.
• Please check back here for an update on warming center locations as we monitor temperatures and restoration times.

IMPORTANT: Winter Storm Emergency Update
Pemberton Borough Office of Emergency Management
Residents, please be advised that our area is currently facing a major winter storm through Monday. Your safety is our primary priority. Please review the following critical updates:
Current Warnings & Weather Outlook
• Blizzard Warning: In effect until Monday, February 23, at 6:00 PM.
• Snowfall Totals: Expect 12–18 inches generally, with 18–24 inches in some areas. Portions of the Pinelands may see historic totals of 24–30 inches.
• High Winds: Gusts up to 60 mph are predicted, which will cause significant snow drifting and near-zero visibility.
Safety Hazards & Power Outages
• Power Outages: Due to blizzard conditions and high winds, widespread power outages are a major concern. Ensure your devices are charged and emergency kits are ready.
• Health Warning: This is a heavy, wet snow (often referred to as "heart attack snow"). The extreme weight makes shoveling dangerous; please use caution, take frequent breaks, and do not overexert yourself.
Travel & Public Services
• Transportation: All public transportation will halt at 6:00 PM.
• Travel Restrictions: Official travel restrictions are now in place. We urge you to stay off the roads to allow snowplows to work safely and to prevent emergency situations.
• Road Clearing: Public Works crews are working around the clock. Given these potentially record-breaking totals, please be patient as it will take significant time to clear streets for safe passage.
Stay safe, stay warm, and look out for your neighbors.

🚒 Help Us Help You – Clear Fire Hydrants After the Snow! ❄️

As winter weather continues, we’re asking all residents to please take a few minutes to clear snow away from any fire hydrants on or near your property.

During an emergency, every second counts. A buried or blocked hydrant can delay firefighters from getting water to a fire when it matters most.

What you can do:
✅ Clear at least 3 feet around the hydrant
✅ Clear a path from the street to the hydrant
✅ Remove snow and ice from caps and operating nuts

This small effort can make a huge difference in protecting lives, homes, and property.

Thank you for helping us keep Prospect safe this winter!

Important Message from Pemberton Borough Office of Emergency Management

🚨 Snowstorm Operations Update 🚨

We ask that residents please continue to be patient and bear with our Public Works Department. This has been a prolonged storm, with 12.4 inches of snow recorded. This is not a quick event with a few inches of accumulation — it is a long-duration storm that requires multiple operational phases. There is also very limited space to push snow, which significantly slows the process.

Residents were asked in advance to move vehicles off the streets or park on the same side of the roadway to assist plowing operations. Unfortunately, this did not occur in many areas, which has made clearing streets more difficult and time consuming.

Our limited staff has been
working continuously throughout the storm, and they will remain out until conditions are fully addressed.

We’ve seen the comments on social media and want to provide some clarity on how snow operations work:

🚑 Emergency Access Comes First
Our first priority is always to ensure roads are passable for

Police, Fire, and EMS so emergency services can reach you when needed.

❄️ This Is a Long-Term Storm
Snow removal is not a single pass operation. Conditions change, accumulation continues, and crews must repeatedly adjust their work.

🚜 Multiple Passes Are Required
Plowing is a multi-stage process. Crews will continue clearing, cleaning up, and widening roadways until the job is complete.

We truly appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as our crews work to restore safe travel conditions. Please continue to use caution if you must be out on the roads.
