We have had a busy month of performing Septic Evaluations along the shore of Crystal Lake and Lake Mascoma in Enfield NH.

As a septic professional, I have always known it to be possible to make mistakes during septic installs, but when that mistake gets past the "state" inspector too, it makes me think that all brand new installs need a full septic evaluation after back fill, beyond what the state looks for.

In the past 3 months, we have found the following:

1) A four year old system was not actually in use as the effluent was still flowing out to the original system (old system not disconnected and filled).

2) A 3 year old system that was installed in a serial Layout, however was not properly connected and had a full vent manifold and effluent flowed where it wanted (this was corrected by the original installer and we were able to verify).

3) A 2 year old ATU system where the air pump was never wired for electricity (the box, receptacle and cover were all sitting within the pump enclosure).

I have always questioned those that requested a septic evaluation on a new/newer system. While there is typically no concerns found on newer system, I now see the importance of going through the process.

I am alarmed by the now 70+ day cyanobacteria advisory on Lake Kanasatka. I know that fundraising is occurring to implement the watershed plan, but lets take care of this great lake.
