Chris Moss is the Director of Bands at Pendleton High School in Pendleton, South Carolina, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Florida State University. Chris has performed in many organizations including the Florida State University Marching Chiefs, the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, Paradigm Winter Guard, and Northeast Independent Winter Guard. Previously, Chris served nine yea

rs as the Assistant Band Director and Color Guard Caption Supervisor at Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina. Additionally, Chris has served on the brass staff with Capital Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps and the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. Chris is currently a member of the South Carolina Band Director’s Association and the National Association for Music Education while being a National Board Certified Educator. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Carolina Indoor Performance Association and is an Adjudicator for Drum Corps International and Bands of America. Chris has served as Drill Designer, Conceptual Designer, Program Coordinator, or Program Director for many award winning marching bands and winter guards across the Southeast. Marching Band awards include State Finalists, Upper and Lower State Championships, State Championships and BOA Regional Finalists. Winter Guard awards include Circuit Championships, WGI Regional Finalists, WGI Regional Championships, WGI Elite Regional Championships, and WGI World Championship Finalists in the Scholastic A, Independent A, and Scholastic Open Classes. Chris is married to Dr. Alison Starr-Moss, has two daughters, Lily and Evie, and two dogs: Schatzi and Pippin.

Clinic Schedule

Doors open and Registration - 9:00AM

Morning Session - 9:30AM-11:30AM
Body training, introduction to choreography, and marching technique

Spring into the upcoming marching season with an informative and participatory clinic for all things marching, band choreography, and visual orchestration! We will start the day with introductory body training, body awareness, and basic alignment exercises. The morning will continue with choreography basics and how to teach your winds/percussion to move and play. Finally, the morning will conclude with marching basics and technique information.

Lunch (lots of local options!) - 11:30AM-12:30PM

Afternoon Session - 12:30PM-2:30PM
Visual Orchestration - designing, teaching, and evaluating visual ideas

The afternoon session will dive into visual orchestration! From designing and implementing visual ideas with orchestration in mind to the latest information on how to teach and coordinate the visual efforts of your students, we will cover how to teach your marching students from pre-season to the state contest.

This clinic will be a great day to kick off the new marching season. I hope you will make plans to join us!!!

Congratulations to all of the SC A-AAAA finalists! I could not be more excited to be a part of all of these wonderful shows and teams. I especially want to congratulate Rick Langdale and Chaz Paxton on well deserved State Championships!!!

Every band show starts out differently and grows at vastly different rates. Watching all of these programs grow into being and then getting to watch wonderful teachers bring it to life is exhilarating. Being a part of so many teams and show designs is truly an honor and a privilege. Whether designing, writing, or consulting... I couldn't be prouder of all of these bands.
