This weekend’s DiamondX Women’s Leadership Retreat in Cuyahoga Valley National Park was a reminder of what happens when women create space to pause, reflect and connect.

REJUVENATING. REFLECTIVE. LAUGHTER. CONNECTION. EMPOWERED.
DON’T PROCRASTINATE: JUST DO IT. CALM. AWED. BRILLIANT. EAGER. JOYFUL. INSPIRED.

These were some of the words participants used to describe the experience — and they captured the energy of the day perfectly.

From meaningful conversations and moments of reflection, this retreat demonstrated the power of community, openness, and stepping outside of everyday routines.

Thank you to the women who joined us and contributed to such a powerful experience. We hope the connections built, insights gained, and confidence strengthened during the DiamondX program continue to carry forward.

Shout out to Christine Hockman with for the dynamic presentation on Cultivating Resilience: The Art of the Mindset Shift for Women in Leadership and for the All Forward team, Claudia Diaz Singer, Andrea Wlaszyn, Valerie Polunas for helping make this happen. And a heartfelt thank you to Jeff Klemm and College of Business - The University of Akron for building programs that invest in and empower the next generation of women leaders!

Join All Forward in partnership with the Executive Education Center, Institute for Professional & Leadership Development - for “CliftonStrengths Meets Navigation” an innovative learning experience that blends leadership, communication, and decision-making with the outdoors. Friday, June 12 from 8-2pm, Richfield Heritage Preserve.

We are going back to the basics learning about topographical maps and compasses. This navigation focuses heavily on strategy and effective teams finding markers of various levels of difficulty across the terrain using only a map, compass and your teammates.

Participants will explore their Top 5 CliftonStrengths and practice applying them in the dynamic outdoor environment. As you tackle navigation challenges, you’ll witness how your unique strengths enhance collaboration and problem-solving, creating a deeper appreciation for the talents within you and your team.

Ideal for leaders or emerging leaders who are ready to stretch themselves in a dynamic learning environment outside the usual training room - mid to upper management leaders or for those who are feeling stuck or heading towards a career change. Individuals or small groups of up to 3. No navigation experience needed.

At All Forward, we believe in the power of SHOWING UP.

This weekend, All Forward and Trust for Public Lands volunteers joined the Canalway Partners Annual RiverSweep at Lakeview Terrace.

Yes, we hauled away countless bags of trash and left the space better than we found it. But the impact went beyond.

Even on a cold, rainy Saturday morning, people still showed up—young families and community members from throughout the region.

Residents shared their appreciation. Simply being there sent a message - someone cares. Kids worked alongside their parents, learning what it looks like to care for something bigger than themselves. Those moments matter. They shape how the next generation understands community.

That’s the power of showing up.

Shout out to Canalway Partners for spearheading RiverSweep. Started in 1989, RiverSweep is a one-day litter cleanup that focuses on protecting the Cuyahoga River by removing garbage from the Cuyahoga River Corridor. Over the course of 36 years, 22,000 volunteers have helped recycle 25,305 illegally discarded tires and picked up almost 1.5 million pounds of trash. The cleanup effort has helped communities reduce public dumping and encouraged the creation of parks and trails.

People are craving real human connection—and organizations are in a unique position to create space for it.

As Adam Grant wrote in The New York Times: “Once, work was a major source of friendships… Now, work is a more transactional place.”

We’re having plenty of productive conversations—but fewer meaningful relationships.

And yet, the data is clear. Research from Gallup consistently shows: Having a best friend at work is one of the strongest predictors of engagement, productivity, and retention.

At the same time, Adam Grant challenges the idea that “work is family.” Instead, he points us toward something more sustainable: Work as a community—built on trust, shared experiences, and moments of real connection.

Many organizations are asking: How do we get people back into the office? A better question might be: How are we making that time together actually matter? Because trust doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through shared experiences, vulnerability, and intentional space to connect.

If we want high-performing teams, we have to design for connection—not just productivity. At All Forward, we create outdoor leadership and team development experiences that help teams slow down, show up, and truly connect.

Ready to strengthen your team? Contact All Forward to start planning an experience that gets your team outside, connected, and building the trust that moves people, organizations and communities FORWARD.

PEOPLE CONNECT. EMPLOYEES ENGAGE. ORGANIZATIONS PROSPER. COMMUNITIES THRIVE.

GRATEFUL. CONNECTED. INSPIRATIONAL. FULFULLING. GROUNDING. HOPEFUL. ENERGIZED.

These were the words that described our leadership hiking experience last Friday at the Ledges in ! Thank you to the EPIC Leadership Initiative for offering these unique outdoor learning experiences. It was an incredible afternoon of making meaningful connections as we aligned the area’s history and environmental landscape to leadership attributes of adaptability, collaboration and resiliency. Nature is our teacher!

People are craving human connection—and our organizations have a unique opportunity to foster it.

But connection doesn’t happen on its own. We have to design our gatherings for the kind of connections we want to create. When done INTENTIONALLY, ordinary gatherings become extraordinarily meaningful experiences.

Thank you to Cleveland SHRM and the team at NOHRC for the opportunity to share how The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker offers a powerful framework for designing more intentional, connected experiences and how All Forward brings this to life through intentionally designed leadership and team development outdoor learning experiences.

Designing with intention…

1. Define a Bold Purpose. Start with a clear WHY. Make it specific, meaningful and debatable. Let purpose drive every decision.

2. Curate the Guest List. Invite for purpose, not politeness. Exclusion is sometimes necessary to protect the experience.

3. Practice Generous Authority. Lead the gathering. Set expectations, create structure and hold boundaries so people feel safe and engaged.

4. Create a Temporary World. Design space, rituals and rules that separate the gathering from everyday life.

5. Design for Real Connection. Move beyond small talk. Use prompts, stories and shared experiences to deepen relationships.

6. Welcome Productive Tension. Don’t avoid meaningful differences. Purposeful discomfort can create growth and insight.

7. Strong Beginnings Matter. Clearly name purpose and invite presence right away.

8. Close with Intentional Endings that Create Meaning. Reflect, acknowledge and send people forward with clarity.

9. Make It Memorable. Small, thoughtful details matter more than perfection.

All Forward Founder’s Reflection- Under the Kenyan night sky, surrounded by roaming wildlife—including a close encounter with hyenas—I witnessed the power of community through the Maasai’s “friend of the fire” and “watchman”—roles rooted in protection, trust, and connection.

As teams, we face our own uncertainty. The question is: how will we show up? Will we guard what matters, stay resourceful, and create spaces where others feel safe and connected?

Find you Epic in your Backyard

All Forward believes that adventure can be experienced anywhere. Micro experiences in our own backyard can be just as epic as a remote trek half-way around the world. What makes these moments impactful is how we experience them.

· Embrace a learning and growth mindset.
· Engage with ourselves, along with the people and world around us.
· Explore nature as a teacher, guide and playground to build skills that stick with us.
· Encourage people to push past what makes them comfortable.
· Enjoy being in a new environment with the opportunity to see ourselves and others in a new light.

We don’t need to go far for adventure. All Forward creates micro adventures in our own backyard of Cuyahoga Valley National Park (ranked as the 11th most visited national park in the U.S. for 2025) and the surrounding area. It is a natural playground for practicing leadership, team development and connection in a unique setting. Activities include: hiking, kayaking, cycling, navigation, art, visiting farms, riding the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and more. We use these activities to help organizations develop the qualities necessary to cultivate effective leaders and build effective teams. Start planning your micro adventure with All Forward today.
