I have a fantastic friend who I met while working on the Oregon coast at a Christian Youth camp. She loves working with Youth and has served in the nonprofit sector for many years. She full of life, and if you ever met her, you have no idea the level of pain that she is going through on a daily basis.
She had a back injury about five years ago that has Dramatically impacted her quality of life. Finally, the doctors have deemed that surgery is the next best course of action. As a friend, I’m so relieved that this may very well be the fix that she’s needed for a very long time. However, if you’ve ever worked in a nonprofit sector, you’ll know that good pay and healthcare benefits are hard to come by.
So, her sister put together a GoFundMe to help make it through the two months of recovery after her back surgery. I know this girl, and I can tell you that whatever she receives, would be stretched as far as possible. I also know that there is no way she would ever ask for this herself. She would live in the back of her car and make things work before taking handouts.
However, if you’re a Christian, things work a little different for us. It says in the Bible that others will know us by the way that we treat our brothers and sisters in the faith. It’s a gift when we’re able to help each other out. It’s not a handout, it’s just the family of God taking care of each other.
I’m gonna be honest that there’s not a lot I’m able to donate right now. Even though I can only send a little, I know that if we all put in a little, it’ll make a big difference for her. So, if you have an extra $5, $10, or $20 even, this is a girl that definitely use some help from her community and family. Thank you.
