Part 2 guns:
If you are going to carry a firearm, learn the law more so than learning to fire it. Why? More than likely you will never fire your firearm in self defense, but there are a ton of ways to get in serious trouble with it. Any little infraction with a firearm is serious financial or jail time trouble. So know those laws. One very good source is "Florida Fi****ms, 8th edition" to be found on Amazon. This is the bible for firearm owners and should be read as religiously as your regular bible.
Second, your firearm should feel right to you. Some indoor ranges allow you to try out before you purchase. We dont all wear the same shoes and use the same brand golf clubs, so finding the right fit in fi****ms is important.
Third, don't buy a hand cannon. A lot of beginners want 44 magnums or 45. Don't. The fireball is huge, the sound is literally deafening, and the kick can be problematic in learning. 38 or 9mm is great for beginners and those who rarely shoot. If you become afraid of your gun, you won't carry it and it will collect dust somewhere. Not good.
Learn how to shoot and shoot well. This will cost a fair amount of money, but worth it. Never buy a gun and carry it before firing a few hundred rounds through it to make sure it works properly. Then clean the darn thing. Target ammo is reasonable, but defense ammo is expensive and worth it.
After you learn basic shooting skills, go to a certified instructor and learn combat shooting skills. Remember you bought that firearm to defend and possibly KILL with. Its not a status symbol. Practice, even if it's "dry firing" in front of the TV.
Part Three coming soon.
