A year after west Maui’s deadly wildfire, Lahaina families are stuck in smoke damaged homes they say are making them sick because they can’t pay to fix them.

With a Hurricane looming and projected to make landfall. Make sure your have protected your investment.
- Protecting your home have be by boarding up your windows, bring in all of your outside furniture etc.
- I also mean to document what your home looks like before any damage occurs. Do this by taking several pictures of all sides of your home, all of your personal belongings, all walls floors and ceilings.
- If your home sustains damage take pics during the clean up. Show where the water entered the home. Show you cleaning up the water.
- We understand that taking these pictures is not the first thing you will think of........but it will pay for itself when you make your insurance claim to get your home back together.
- After the storm passes, take more pics of the aftermath both inside and out.
- Getting a company that does a proper damage assessment to help your claim can prove to be invaluable to your home being mitigated and put back properly.

Please stay safe and use common sense during the storm to protect your home and family.

Qualifications

•Communication Skills –Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

•Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization

•Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination and drug screening

•Able to wear full and half face respirator, work in confined spaces and regularly lift and carry 50+ pounds

•Restoration Required Education and Experience

•High School Diploma or equivalent

•2-4 years of Construction and/or restoration experience, working on water/fire damage jobs specifically, environmental experience, and hazardous waste

•The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, strong work ethic with the ability to follow directions

•Good communication skills and commitment to company safety policy are a must

•Must be legally eligible to work in the United States

•Bilingual English/Spanish is encouraged, but not required

Responsibilities:

•The Contents Restoration Specialist is responsible for working as part of a team to perform emergency services and contents restoration work while adhering to company policies and procedures regarding remediation

•The individual will also adhere to EPA, OSHA, and local requirements regarding safety and hazardous materials handling

•Other qualifications and responsibilities might arise as deemed necessary by circumstances

•The individual must be available for emergency response work after-hours and on weekends
•Perform content restoration work on residential and commercial properties

•Perform physical labor associated with cleanup activities, packing customers’ contents, general on-location cleaning, HVAC cleaning, and deodorization of facilities

•Assists with the inventory of site contents, setup of emergency services equipment, preparing contents for storage and lifting items into storage

•Follow applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans when performing cleanup activities and donning protective gear

•Operate routinely used tools and equipment

•Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment

•Warehouse maintenance, stock supplies, building maintenance

•Hazardous Waste Operations

•All other duties as assigned

•Work Environment: Working around equipment and machinery, the work environment is usually dirty, dusty, and noisy, on uneven
ground/surfaces containing hazardous or potentially hazardous substances and/or materials and is subject to inclement or extreme weather conditions and temperatures

•Work includes handling hazardous materials and the use of personal protective equipment

Top 5 priorities after a loss
1) Make sure you are in a safe place
- Do not enter structurally damaged property.
- Do not go near or drive over downed power lines
2) Protect your home from further damage if possible
- Hire licensed, insured contractor to tarp or board up home
- Extract water that may have entered home.
3) Document loss
- Take photos and video of impacted areas
- Gather estimates to repair
- Keep a journal of correspondence with carrier. Include date, time, person you spoke to and what was said for EVERY communication and keep it in the same place.
- Inventory damaged personal items
- Locate a copy of your full policy (typically 50-100 pages long)
- Hire a professional company to document water intrusion, roof damage and other specialized damages
4) Hire a contractor
- Check license at www.myfloridalicense.com. If you cannot find a license on this site, they don’t have one. Unlicensed contracting in Florida is a felony.
- Verify insurance on contractor with their agent. Just because they show documentation doesn’t mean it’s in force and current.
- Ask about workmanship warranties
5) Be patient.
- The claims game can take several months to come to completion.
- Think about hiring a Public Adjuster or Attorney to help you through the process.
