"Freedom is a Priceless Boon, or The Emancipation of Abraham," is a new performance in narration, music, and song inspired by true and tragic events that happened in
Pensacola, Florida, in the late 19th century. The performance is Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 5:00 PM, at 901 North A Street, Pensacola. The performance is free and open to the public.
Written by Robin Reshard of the Kukua Institute, the story is inspired by a train accident that happened almost two decades after the end of the Civil War during a celebration of Emancipation Day by Pensacolaโs African American community. Amidst the tragic events, the titular character, Abraham, realizes the real cost of freedom and the boundaries of his love.
Bass baritone Lloyd Reshard Jr., performs the role of Abraham and alto Sandra Gary Winborne Phd, performs as Sarah. Making his debut performance in the role of Captain Richardson is a hip-hop artist
Tynarial โSargโ Jones. The productionโs music director is Dozier, the co-writer of the musical Henry Box Brown and advisor to A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical.
