More Illinois food and beverage manufacturers are moving toward structured apprenticeship programs to build a stronger, more reliable workforce.

Why? Because developing talent from within leads to better retention, more consistent performance across shifts, and a team that’s built for long-term success.

IMEC works side-by-side with manufacturers to design and implement programs tailored to their operations, workforce, and goals.

Interest is high, and companies that start now are already seeing results this year.

Growth challenges rarely have one simple solution. Workforce pressures, operational demands, market shifts, and technology adoption are all shaping how manufacturers move forward.

That’s why conversations with peers matter.

The Illinois Manufacturers' Association's Southeastern Illinois Manufacturing Roundtable brings manufacturers together to discuss challenges, share perspectives, and explore opportunities for growth alongside others facing similar realities.

If you’re in southeastern Illinois, this is a valuable opportunity to connect with manufacturers in your region and be part of the conversation.

ICYMI: Last week’s webinar explored how manufacturers are using IIoT to uncover hidden waste across operations.

From downtime and waiting to excess motion and process inefficiencies, many of the 8 wastes are difficult to address without the right visibility into what’s happening on the shop floor.

In this recording, we discuss how connected technologies and real-time data can help manufacturers identify waste earlier, improve decision-making, and support stronger continuous improvement efforts.

If operational visibility and efficiency are priorities for your organization, this is worth watching.

Every manufacturer has a story.

In Carbondale, Emriver, Inc. is turning river science into global impact. What started as a mission to help people better understand waterways has grown into an Illinois manufacturing success story reaching customers in more than 20 countries.

This story is about innovation with purpose, building something meaningful close to home while creating impact far beyond it. It’s also a reminder that small manufacturers can grow, adapt, and compete globally without losing the ingenuity that makes them unique.

We’re proud to highlight Emriver and the role they play in strengthening manufacturing, innovation, and opportunity in Southern Illinois.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice helped protect the freedoms, opportunities, and communities we continue to build every day.

Across Illinois manufacturing, many veterans continue serving through leadership, skilled trades, innovation, and dedication to their teams and communities. Today, we pause to recognize and remember those who never made it home.

Celebrating an IMECiversary for Kaleb Bolliger! 🎉

One of Kaleb's standout contributions this past year was helping lead the retirement of a long-standing legacy system — a major milestone years in the making. This wasn't just turning something off; it meant untangling and rebuilding a complex web of processes and automation that the organization had long depended on.

Kaleb and the IT team worked across multiple fronts: modernizing the underlying code, building a new environment to support it, and improving development practices that simply weren't possible with the historical setup. The result is a more modern, flexible foundation for IMEC moving forward.

After the project wrapped, a former IMEC leader who had helped build the original system years ago stopped by. Kaleb shared that he'd wondered if that person might feel some sadness seeing it go — but that concern dissolved quickly when Kaleb saw just how excited they were about what the team had built in its place. That moment, and the effort behind it, has stuck with him.

We’re grateful for Kaleb’s dedication and the impact of this work behind the scenes. Congratulations, Kaleb! 👏

Automation in casting and forging can feel out of reach. Too expensive. Too complex. Too disruptive to implement.

But that perception is changing.

Today’s automation solutions are becoming more practical, flexible, and accessible for manufacturers looking to improve safety, address workforce challenges, and increase operational efficiency without overcomplicating the process.

In this webinar, Flex-Line Automation, Inc. will explore how casting and forging manufacturers are applying automation in ways that make sense for real operations, with practical insight into where to start, what’s attainable, and how to create impact over time.

If automation has been on your radar but felt unrealistic, this is a conversation worth joining.

Join us in celebrating Alex Kelleher's IMECiversary! 🎉

This past year, Alex had the opportunity to step out from behind the scenes and experience the Makers on the Move bus tour firsthand—visiting manufacturers and connecting with partners across the state. Seeing those relationships come to life in person reinforced the real impact of her work and the meaningful ways IMEC supports businesses every day.

Moments like these bring purpose into focus, and Alex’s dedication helps turn ideas into lasting connections for our clients and partners. We’re grateful for all she does to make that happen.

Congratulations, Alex! 👏

Tight production schedules and slow onboarding make retention tough. Apprenticeship programs give employees a clear path to grow and stay.

Apprenticeship programs create that structure, while helping reduce disruptions on the production floor and easing the burden on supervisors who are training new hires.

IMEC partners with Illinois manufacturers to design and implement programs that work in real production environments.
