Working on a Saturday to make room for fun on a Monday: WORTH IT!

I've learned: If I don't invest in myself I'll probably keep striving for the things I want, but it will look more like "waddling along." A little over a year ago something clicked and kicking things up a notch became important to me:
~19 months ago I joined Weight Watchers online and have lost 35 pounds.
~Last month I filled out the application to be a CASA volunteer.
~Over the Weekend I decided to get serious about developing leadership skills that will refine my ability to platform my passions with my business and in the work I volunteer in. I'm taking Steve Farber's Online Course, The Extreme Leadership Edge, to do this.

I'd love to hear how you are investing in yourself!

Yesterday I took a step in improving myself as a leader. I know it's been a long time since I have posted anything. Mainly because I wasn't sure where I was going. Sometimes that happens. Nuff said. Today is the first step of allowing myself to see a future.. with hope... that I can do/be more than I ever thought to think. I'm excited about moving into a new realm.

I realized a long time ago that being an entrepreneur is terrifying on some levels and comforting on others. The greatest comfort is in the arena of being fired. My employment is not in the hands of one single employer, but in the hands of hundreds of customers and clients. When one is unsatisfied with my services I learn from them and continue to grow my business, but I am still employed!

Names can imply strength, value, connection or friendliness, or they can set opposite tones.

I think this goes for families as well.

I think this goes for families as well.

Research suggests that many people have a distorted view of their own behavior, and aren't aware when they're acting rude at work.

HELLO fellow entrepreneurs who don't believe what you say, especially HOW you say it, on your fb and twitter feeds, even though it's your right, does'nt effect people wanting to use your business. This article could also be called "Why Cynical People Get Less Customers." Many of us depend on our friends for "warm" contact leads... I'm thinking they probably don't want to give you those if they see your general demure on your statuses and replies or responses to others are full of cynical remarks as well. IMHO (I have no facts to support this, just my gut feeling of who I want to do business with.) Kind and thoughtful people attract me to their businesses.

But new research suggests there's an unexpected reason why some people earn less money than others: They're too cynical.

The industry that used to draw the most jobs in the Phx area was construction. Today's industry is here, and if you are not already learning, it may be a good idea to get Tech Savy. Most all of us, ie. if you are reading this post, know how to use technology in computer form... but do you know how to troubleshoot when there is a problem? Phx peeps are a bit behind the times on being able to do what's needed in the tech world. Because of that, others will move here, taking on these jobs, leaving so many of us continually unemployed. I'm not saying I don't welcome new people to our amazing city... but I am saying get out there and learn something that is marketable, getting those jobs yourself if you can. Go to your local community college and take some tech classes... media technology, computer information systems, Quickbooks accounting, website design, even ART 101 is now computer based. The best thing I ever did for myself running a business is take the CIS and Quickbooks classes. Next for me is website design. Not so much because I plan to design websites for anyone else... and maybe not even for myself, but I at least want to keep up with the language needed for making decisions about what I need. ~ NOT EVERYONE needs to take a formal class. If you are self motivated and disciplined enough you can figure out how to do these things on your own. My son Ian went and bought a book at ASU, loaded the software he needed and taught himself CAD Design which, even with an engineering degree from UofA, is what landed him the job he has now that he loves! !

91 Year old client who is moving from a home to a studio apartment: The most amazing thing (about Harry this week) was the original hand written manuscript from a book he eventually published (technical engineering data) ~ and his response when we were going to shred it... "It's ok, I have the book now, and it's on the computer... I'll back it up onto an external hard drive." Uh yeah... I don't even know how to do that! He never stopped learning, and is getting ready to downsize his two computers onto a laptop. (He didn't hire me for that part!)
