We posted this a while back and it applies now too!
So here is the repost!!.......
If you have been outside, watched the weather or talked to anyone in central Illinois, you cannot have missed the fact that THE HEAT OF SUMMER IS HERE!!
Even if you are simply dashing from your air-conditioned home to an already running air-conditioned car, the heat is almost unbearable!
There are some who cannot avoid the heat and do not have the luxury of air-conditioning, and while there are not many things Carter Paper & Packaging can do to help, we at least want to remind everyone of a few heat safety tips:
Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. Other liquids (coffee, tea, sodas) may taste good but almost nothing helps the body recover and continue on more than water!
Avoid direct sun.
Pace yourself.
Take breaks in the coolest, grassy place you can find….even though it may still feel hot, being in the shade on grass is usually at least 20 degrees or more cooler than being on pavement in sun!
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes and a hat.
Use a damp rag to help regulate temperature. You can keep a few kitchen size dish cloths in a zip-top bag filled with ice and as the day progresses, take them out one at a time to wipe your face and then wrap around your neck.
Eat smaller meals with a focus on fruits and natural juices that can provide near instant nutrition and energy. Avoid high protein and foods that need a lot of time to digest.
STAY ALERT TO SIGNS OF HEAT ILLNESSES! Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat related health issues are serious threats with real-life consequences! Rapid treatment is essential! This National Weather Service has this helpful page: https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat-illness
