If you have ever been mesmerized watching a worker like say, a plumber, perform a task and wonder, what is their life like? How did they decide to become a plumber?

One powerful way we learn about the world around us is by reading. And, when someone tells their story, we all gain insight into what someone else’s world is like. It is the best way to discover a human experience we otherwise would have no idea about.

Our world is changing in nearly every way it CAN change. How we solve problems and engage can now be done in entirely new ways. Reading and listening to others can give us a perspective that can inspire us and appreciate them.

The beauty within us often remains there, quiet and unseen.

Why do we keep our gifts hidden? It is true. There is much judgment in the world today. The risk is real. Yet, the people right beside smiling with us could also be the person right beside us full of pain, loss, and isolation.

So often, our lives drift as the world around us takes away people, emotion, and objects of joy, unexpectedly. And yet, the winds of our worlds sweep more into our lives, also unexpectedly. We move and flow along our paths with as much wisdom and direction as we can muster.

From time to time, we encounter a word, a sentence, a story. A perspective that is so wildly different than our own thinking. And it is that single expression that shifts us and blows our path a little to the right here, or a little to the left there, slows us down or speeds us up.

Imagine if it were your word, or sentence, or story that impacted someone to take that turn.

And nothing would ever be the same.

A memoir is your expression and gift to the world.

Your story may be aspirational or advisory. Maybe you have a fun sense of humor or you have had a time in your life that you think about more often than others. Whatever your history is, it has lived within you for days, months, or even years, and you may have started writing it or at least thought about how you would tell it.

Is your story like this ceramic Christmas tree? More than 40 years ago, ceramic studios were everywhere and many, many households had these lighted trees that people made in classes. The trees decorated the holiday tables then, yet today, few people are creating their own ceramics. The story around this tree includes weeks of classes spent between a middle school girl and her Mom. When one of these trees appears in a thrift store or a home clean-out, sadly, no one hears the story behind its creation. The jokes told at the class table, the time spent together building a grown up relationship, and the confidence built in a completing successful tree.

Your story deserves to be told, if it isn't, it remains a nice thought, one no one knows.

It's great watching one of my author clients, Dr. Ken Muchich, in action here at the Arizona Association Of Chiropractic Conference. Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa is a great venue for this size event and his book about the fibromyalgia protocol he has perfected is doing well here. Gotta love conferences--regardless of the field --pretty much the same routine. First chiropractic one for me.

I've also allowed myself a couple tchotchke....couldn't resist the spine pen and of all things, this apple corer...at least IT'S PRACTICAL!
