Your furnace filter might be in BACKWARDS right now 😬

Walked a basement today and found two things worth sharing:

1️⃣ Multiple slow leaks on this old drain line — see all that corrosion and buildup? That's years of drips. It never stays slow. That's a stained ceiling waiting to happen.

2️⃣ The filter arrow pointing the WRONG way. A filter only works if air flows through it in the right direction. Backwards = choked airflow, higher bills, and a system working way harder than it should.

Do this today 👉 pull your filter and make sure the arrow points WITH the airflow (toward the blower). 30-second check.

Drones and expensive gear are cool, but you can’t beat actually getting up on the roof.

Walking supply registers with a thermal camera tells me in seconds what a hand in front of the vent can't — which rooms are actually getting conditioned air, which ones are getting a trickle, and whether a run is blocked, disconnected, or leaking into a crawlspace somewhere along the way.

Thermal earns its place in my bag every single inspection. Registers and duct performance. Oven and range element function. Refrigerator and freezer temps. Hot water delivery at the fixture. Missing or compressed insulation in walls and ceilings. Moisture patterns behind finishes that are completely invisible under a flashlight.

I’m at it again—and this time I am going to need a boat.

Storm rolled through and the basement started taking on water two ways at once — up through the floor drain, and in through the walls.

The drain backing up means whatever it ties into couldn’t keep up with the rain. The walls are a separate conversation about where water goes once it hits the ground outside.

I’m at it again — squeezing into an attic hatch a grown man has no business fitting through.

No shade on any inspector out there — but if you hire a big guy, he’s not going where I’m going. Half the story on a house is in the spots that are a pain to reach: the far corner of the attic, the crawlspace, the access hatch nobody wants to deal with. I go in so you know what’s actually up there before you own it.

Once I saw how this metal roof was installed, I figured I’d find high moisture in the ceiling below — so I went looking for it. Pulled out my Tramex ME5 and confirmed exactly what I expected.
