We had some BIG deliveries to our Longwood Reimagined project this week! Six water tanks, measuring 60-feet-long and 8-feet in diameter, and each capable of holding 20,000 gallons, have arrived on site. The tanks are part of our sustainable rainwater capture system that will allow us to reuse collected rainwater from the roof of the new West Conservatory and Administration Building for irrigation and gray water purposes. Two of the tanks will hold collected rainwater, which is then treated, filtered, and stored in three of the remaining tanks for irrigation purposes and one tank for holding gray water. The six tanks will be buried and installed in the coming weeks on the south side of the West Conservatory. We are proud to be stewarding our rainwater resources in this sustainable and responsible way . . . just another example of Beauty in the Making.

Another important milestone reached in our Longwood Reimagined project! Friday, we lifted the first section of steel for the West Conservatory. Weighing in at around 11,500 pounds and 47 feet tall, this section is the cornerstone of the first of 13 frames (or rows of columns and beams) that will form the structure of our West Conservatory. Like a cornerstone, it is critical to set this first section accurately to ensure that all the other frames line up according to the building’s unique and beautiful design. The steel-lifting process will continue throughout the summer, so you will really see the West Conservatory taking shape on your next visit. Another moment of Beauty in the Making!
