Smart Yield Data Consulting Smart Yield is a data consulting company that takes agricultural data combined with farmer knowledge to create a state of the art precision plan.

Smart Yield is a company I started to focus on "more then surface deep" statistical analysis of agriculture data. Certain forms of data by themselves are somewhat useless, but by combining multiple data resources as well as the growers knowledge of the growing area, we can produce a field specific precision plan from variable rate seeding and preplant fertilizer to variable rate in-season nutrient

application of N,P, and K. Then to finish of the plan in the fall, we take yield data and add input costs to them to come up with year-end gross revenue, net profits, and cost per bushel maps.

I always enjoy watching video clips like this. The many dynamics of farming is what enables the adrenaline and passion for the occupation, and pushes growers to work through the stress and variable growth battles. Although agriculture is far from an occupation without needing the human touch, it still is cool to see how far certain types of technology has gotten us!

Mapping "White Mold" in soybeans for future GPS referenced soil amending. Fixing calcium base saturation and micro nutrient levels (copper, zinc, manganese) is the name of the game when it comes to disease.

Did you know that pH is a poor measure for liming needs?? It's just a measure of hydrogen concentration. In fact, a pound of magnesium can move pH 1.4x higher than calcium. So high pH does not always mean adequate calcium, nor does a 6.8 pH. Don't be fooled into applying calcium only when your pH is below 6.8!!! Look at your Base Saturation % to determine needs. Calcium should be 68-75%. This may be one of your limiting factors. Soluble calcium should be added every spring to your fertilizer!

This is some genuine, "outside of the box" thinking! Karl, a fellow twitter farmer, is using cover crops to create a strip till environment for his edible beans next year! By planting radishes in one row, and cereal rye in the next, he is hoping to see compaction alleviate from the radish roots while keeping a good residue cover over the rest of the field with the rye. . When the radishes die off in late winter/spring, they should create a nice "black" open strip of loose dirt to plant into!
