🚒 October is Fire Prevention Month!

The members of Perth Amboy Fire Officers FMBA Local 258 and Firefighters FMBA Local 58 remind everyone that fire prevention starts at home.

This year’s NFPA theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!” Everyday charging habits can help protect your family and our community.

🔌 Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
📱 Charge on a hard, flat surface, away from beds, couches, and pillows.
🔋 Unplug devices when fully charged.
🚪 Keep exits clear of charging devices.

Small actions can make a big difference. Share these reminders with your family and neighbors, and help us keep Perth Amboy safe!

Today, members of Battalion 4 conducted a confined space rescue drill at one of the industrial sites where our department provides confined space emergency response.

Our members did an outstanding job throughout the drill. Their performance is a testament to their ongoing training, teamwork, and commitment to being ready when called upon. Training at the facilities we protect gives our members valuable opportunities to prepare for the challenges they may face during an actual emergency.

For the second time this week, we are grateful to announce another successful grant award. Today, the City was awarded a FY2026 FEMA Port Security Grant Award for $177,000.00. This will cover upgrades and maintenance to our fire and police boats for the next three years, ensuring operational readiness 24/7. Thank you to FEMA and our elected officials for the continued support, with a grant total that has now reached nearly $8.5 million dollars under the various related grant programs.

We are grateful to announce that the Perth Amboy Fire Department (along with hundreds of other fire departments) have been awarded a FY2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant today. Our grant will specifically fund live burn training days for the next two years at the fire academy. In addition it will fund overtime to ensure that while an entire shift is training at the academy, the city is also adequately covered. Thank you to FEMA and our elected officials for continuing to support the fire service.
