Grissom ARB Fire Department

Fire Prevention week completed, what a blast it was.
From Grissom base personnel, to assisting Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Miami County Indiana at Pipe Creek Elementary school, we had a great time educating everyone about fire safety.

Are your everyday charging habits putting your home at risk? 📱⚡

For Fire Prevention Week 2026, Grissom FD is urging everyone to "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower."

Prevent lithium-ion battery fires with these 3 quick rules of thumb:

🚫 NO charging on soft surfaces (beds, couches, blankets)

🔌 ONLY use manufacturer-approved cords and power blocks
🪫 NEVER keep charging a device once it's fully powered up

Lithium-ion battery fires burn hot and fast

Taking 10 seconds to plug your device in safely is a simple way to protect the people you love.

Got questions? The Grissom FD Fire Prevention Office is here to help. Stay safe, Grissom!

Heroes Next Door, have you heard of them?
It is a page and a YouTube channel put together by Paramedic/Firefighter Micheal Borello who travels around the country and visits fire, public safety (police and fire), EMS and police departments.
While visiting these places, he takes a tour of the facility, trucks/vehicles, training grounds and video documents everything and puts together a video to share on social media platforms. This gives the organization a chance to showcase their department and highlight the capabilities of equipment they use, how truck compartments are set up …all to serve the community when the need arises.
Heros Next Door recently paid a visit to Grissom ARB Fire Department, and a tour was completed of the station, some trucks and the training grounds.
We look forward to sharing them on our page-giving you an inside view of our fire department.
So with all that said, please take a look at this video, and stay tuned as more come in the near future. If you wish to do the social media things (like/follow/share/subscribe) to the HND page, that helps keep the mission going.

September 11, 2026 Mutual-Aid to Kokomo Fire Dept.

Around 12pm an aircraft flying out of Kokomo municipal airport experienced landing gear issues.
While the pilot flew laps around the airport and burned off most of his fuel, a request for an ARFF truck from Grissom Fire was made.
Squad-11 responded and met up with Kokomo fire units already on scene, formulating a plan for when the pilot does attempt a landing.
With the ability to “pump and roll” and quickly discharge foam out of the bumper turret, Squad-11 was positioned near the runway.
The aircraft landed and skidded to a stop, and the pilot exited without injury. The aircraft suffered some minor damage, but was deemed fire safe with no fluids leaking.
Grissom Squad-11 was released from the scene and returned to the base.

WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT ALONE!!!

Grissom Air and Space Expo 2026 was a huge event. From Friday through Sunday around 30,000 people processed through security and attended the show. That attendance number doesn’t include:
-members of the base
-workers of the event
-vendors
-the multitude of people who stayed in the parking lots
-the people who watched from other areas surrounding the base.

With that large amount of people comes challenges that leadership of Grissom Fire Department worked hard to prepare for.

With the help of our mutual aid neighbors and EMS agencies, over 140 medical events were handled ranging from an allergic reaction to a bee sting, to CPR being done on a cardiac patient and getting them flown out, and a multitude of heat related issues.
Along with being prepared for medical emergencies, we also staged and staffed fire trucks on the flight line area to deal with any potential aircraft incidents, as well as in the areas surrounding the base.

We are incredibly grateful to all the personnel from
Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Miami County Indiana, City of Peru Fire Department, Walton Community Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and Parkview Health that spent your weekend helping keep all the people who came to watch the air show, safe. While the Air Force Thunderbirds were the main attraction-all of you were the stars of the show!

Indiana State Police-Peru District brought 2 dogs over to the fire station for a photo.
