I’ve always been fascinated with language: my own, as well as the sounds of words spoken by someone from another country, by the shapes and arranging of letters, and by characters scrawled across a page. As a child, I gravitated toward those who sounded or looked “different”, so it was only logical that I found myself as a teacher to those whose first language was not English. By using my language
and sharing it with others, I am naturally surrounded by people “different” from me, and learn more about the world from those I teach. An easy and exciting transition from teaching for me was to find projects that require writing copy, editing existing copy, and creating written materials that assist businesses to sell themselves and inform customers (or clients) accurately. Too often, businesses can create content that is full of details, but lacks a clear message. Conversely, they may think that the company title and a few images will do the trick, yet do not realize that they are actually failing at setting themselves apart from the competition. People who have a passion for their business may not have time to create their online presence or marketing materials because they are “out there” providing their services or products, and that’s where I can help. As a freelance writer/editor/proofreader, I enjoy helping others come up with honest, compelling executive biographies, creating website content that draws in the targeted audience, and editing it for ease of understanding as well as subtracting any written errors. Additionally, I have experience in developing instruction materials, textbooks of various kinds, designing user manuals, and how-to guides. I enjoy simplifying and breaking down the process so that readers can understand without frustration. Because of my experience teaching ESL, I am also able to write and review material keeping in mind the non-native English speaker who may be part of your targeted audience. I like to describe myself as a professional liaison, bringing together two sides by effectively sharing what one has to say, and the other needs to know. In general, my passion is assuring successful communication, while being creative with the written word. Education:
