If you’re using your rescue inhaler often, it could be a sign that your asthma isn’t under control. The GINA guidelines recommend treating the underlying airway inflammation—not just the symptoms.

✅ Take your prescribed controller medication as directed

✅ Schedule regular checkups with your healthcare provider

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Mayor Sam Parham and City Council members were honored to present a proclamation recognizing May as National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and May 5 as World Asthma Day while also honoring the life and legacy of Jasiah Rashad Rives.

In the face of unimaginable loss, Keanna and Jaquan Rives, Sr. have turned grief into purpose through their advocacy work with ForeverJasiah, helping raise awareness about asthma and the impact it has on children and families throughout our community.

Jasiah’s memory continues to inspire education, compassion, and action as Petersburg works to promote healthier homes, healthier environments, and greater awareness surrounding respiratory health. Their family’s strength and commitment remind us all of the importance of protecting the health and wellbeing of every child.

We thank the Rives family for sharing Jasiah’s story and for continuing to make a difference in the lives of others. 💙

Yesterday, we want to sincerely thank the City of Petersburg, the Mayor, and City Council for honoring Jasiah with a proclamation during World Asthma Awareness Month.

This recognition means so much to our family and serves as a reminder that Jasiah’s story continues to inspire awareness, education, and change throughout our community.

We will continue to spread asthma awareness, educate families, and keep Jasiah’s name and legacy alive through every event, program, and conversation. Thank you for standing with us and helping shine a light on a cause that impacts so many children and families. 💙
