I orchestrated an intervention for a 28 year old male on Sunday night who is a heavy daily drinker. He definitely is starting to have health issues with is liver. My next intervention will be for a 24 year old female who is experiencing liver symptoms as a result of heavy daily drinking. Liver disease related to alcohol consumption is not limited to middle age.

Doctors seeing more women, patients under 40 with liver disease

In South-Central Wisconsin, 55 people died from liver disease in 2009, including 35 with alcoholic liver disease. That made it the 14th-leading cause of death in the area.

I could not be more proud of this woman. She is a warrior for her family. I was blessed to be able to help her help her husband and young adult son find recovery. I hope this new group is a huge success. PS. she wants me to share that we worked together to help her family, i.e. I have her full permission

A sad reality

An analysis of U.S. death certificate data by researchers at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health, found that nearly 1 million people died from alcohol-related causes between 1999 and 2017. The number of death certificates mentioni...

The minimum federal minimum wage is $7.25, though many states have set it higher. Between 1990 and 2015, raising the minimum wage by $1 in each state might have saved more than 27,000 lives, according to a report published this week in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health. An increase of $2 in each state's minimum wage could have prevented more than 57,000 su***des.

The increases appear to have the largest effect when unemployment is high, according to new research..

Death rates from su***de, drug overdoses, liver disease and dozens of other causes have been rising over the past decade for young and middle-aged adults, driving down overall life expectancy in the United States for three consecutive years, according to a strikingly bleak study published Tuesday that looked at the past six decades of mortality data.

A massive study of U.S. mortality shows a grim trend in life expectancy across racial lines.

#1 Stop Pretending Everything is Fine

If you’re struggling right now, you may be tempted to hide your feelings. But when you do, you’re actually disregarding your own experiences. You can’t feel joy when you can’t be authentic. Whether you’re happy, sad or resentful, finding healthy ways to honor yourself and where you’re at emotionally is the kindest way to manage the holidays.

Pretending “you’re fine” doesn’t work. When you can’t be honest, it’s hard to be present. Your energy is spent trying to put on a happy face.

My colleague Michelle Farris, LMFT wrote this new blog post about coping with difficult feelings such as anger and sadness. These are especially difficult feelings to have during the holidays when we’re expected to be happy. I hope you’ll...

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I have worked with clients who appear to be desperately trying to perfect their exterior in a cry for love and acceptance. The reality is that self worth comes from the inside and no matter how perfect one looks that will not bring the feeling of being good enough without doing the inner work.
