Tomorrow marks another first for Lock & Lean over 20 years in the making. Tomorrow, we will introduce Police Motor Officers to the world of Dual Sport/Adventure bike riding and response to calls for service.

Lock & Leans Lead Instructor Ben Wolfe has spent 17 years patrolling some rough terrain on a street motorcycle. The reason he has ridden a street motorcycle versus off-road in his conservation patrols is because the majority of his patrol is done on the street, about 80-90%. Interestingly enough, most of the gnarliest calls he has responded to have been in some remote, off-road locations where a motorcycle came in handy.

Although majority of patrols will be street focused for most Agencies, with the overwhelming influx of Adventure and Dual Sport technology and availability, we now find ourselves needing to consider the 20% of off road, rougher terrain riding in order to respond in a variety of situations. Back in the early 2000’s Ben had started a curriculum specifically focused on getting first responders into tough spots with both more equipment and less fatigue.

Tomorrow Officers will be learning how to manage a blended approach of street to off-road transitions in a variety environments on their Department Harley-Davidson PAN-AMs. They will learn to conquer the various surfaces and situations as they present themselves and of course, risk versus reward in a moments notice. This is NOT racing focused!!!! This is getting to your destination with confidence despite unfavorable terrain.

We want to thank PORT YAMAHA for supplying Lock & Lean with a Dual Sport Yamaha XT250. This motorcycle will be used to introduce the street focused Motor Officer to a new riding challenge of terrain negotiations.

Looking forward to sharing more of our journey with you all. As always “Practice with Purpose”. Thanks for following!!!!
