Culture isn't created by your mission statement.
It's created by what you tolerate.

Every organization has values hanging on a wall.

But employees learn your real culture by watching what happens every day.

❓ Do poor performers get a pass?
❓ Are managers held accountable?
❓ Is disrespect ignored?
❓ Are top performers recognized?
❓ Do leaders actually model the behaviors they expect from others?

People don't believe what you say.
They believe what you consistently allow.

If your culture isn't where you want it to be, start by asking:
"What are we tolerating that is shaping the culture we say we want?"

36 YEARS IN HR: I'VE SEEN SOME 💩

When I started in 1990, cell phones were new (in bags with no texting), presentations involved overhead projectors and transparencies, and AI wasn’t coming for anyone’s job. A lot has changed since then, but surprisingly, a lot hasn’t.

I recently reflected on 5 lessons I’ve learned in 36 years of HR—about people, experience, work, and how quickly life moves.

And yes, one of those lessons is that people are crazy. At least some of them. 😂

There have been seasons in my life when I wondered why God seemed so quiet.

Prayers didn't seem to have immediate answers.
The path ahead wasn't clear.
I felt like I was simply trying to keep going.

Looking back, I can see that those seasons taught me things I couldn't have learned any other way.

They gave me empathy.
They strengthened my faith.
They prepared me to encourage others who would eventually face similar storms.

I'm curious...
