So this may be an unpopular opinion in the world of organizing...but I'm actually okay with junk drawers 🙈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mean, there's a reason we all have a junk drawer in our house 😜
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But just because it's a junk drawer, doesn't mean it can't be organized. You can still find a home for these random odds and ends.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's what I did here -- just a quick refresh so that you can actually SEE what's in this drawer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Plus I recommend cleaning out your junk drawer every few months to get rid of old coupons, broken pens, etc.

Organization doesn't have to be sexy; it just needs to be functional.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think a lot of people get caught up in the aesthetic of being organized, especially here on Instagram. Don't get me wrong, I love a pretty closet with fancy, new organizers and color coordination. But that's not realistic for most people. Most of my clients just need the space to be functional again.

So don't let what you see on social media intimidate you. Let it inspire you to get started and get creative with your organization!

You're never too young to learn how to organize 👶 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I remember my mom teaching me and my sister how to fold our clothes and put them away at a young age. I think we were like 8...Her lessons clearly stuck with me!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many of us don't learn how to organize our things until we're adults (and even then it can be a struggle!). So I say teach 'em young! Give them systems that work for them now and in the future 🔑

You may be wondering why it's necessary to label open containers. Let me tell you why...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Labels gently remind us to put ONLY those items into those containers. So even if I can see that this box is full of flip-flops, the label reminds me not to put my sunglasses in there when I'm rushing around.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is especially helpful with bigger storage bins (think seasonal decorations). It's a lot easier to read a label than open a bin to see what is inside.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Labels make it super easy to stay organized as long as you stick to them (no pun intended 🤣). If you find yourself with several items that don't have a home, then it may be time to get another container. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

New year, new closets! This is the perfect time to purge some of the things we've accumulated over the last year.

I know most of my clients dread this kind of project, but I promise that getting started is the hardest part. Give these tips a try and let me know how it goes!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌️ Have a plan. Are you going to donate unwanted items? Give them to friends and family? Sell them on a second-hand site? Have bags or boxes for each of these.
✌️ If you haven't worn it in the last year, toss it or donate it (depending on its condition!)
✌️ Once it's in a bag or box, it stays there. There are no take-backs in purging!
