Going live is huge for building authority, adding value, and showing off your expertise.
But it can be intimidating.
I remember going live for the first time ever back when was a thing (this is before FB had FB Live).
I was soooo nervous!
But I knew the future was in live video content, so I was committed to getting good at it, so I did it… a LOT.
And now, 6 years later, I can go live anytime and riff about business as comfortably as I could sitting down with a client or colleague.
If you wish you could be more confident and impactful when going live, here are are a few things that have helped me master the art of going live:
#1 - Practice!!! Do it over and over again. Then do it some more. It’s ok to suck at first. You’ll get better and better every time!
#2 - Talk like you're talking to your best friend. You don't have to have it perfect, you just have to give AF about your topic and about how what you’re sharing will impact the person on the other end of the video.
#3 - It's ok to pause and catch your breath. It gives people a moment to absorb what you're saying and you a moment to think about where you're going next.
#4 - Put a little post-it near the camera lens with bullets of the main points you want to cover because there is nothing worse than signing off and realizing you forgot to speak into something you wanted/needed to.
#5 - And most important… don’t take yourself too seriously. People want to know you are human and that means you won’t always be perfect. Just trust the process and keep going!
