If you are a major music artist, why do you need a major record label? You don't. If you have no "options" left, do not resign. What do labels do these days. You are already known. The only thing they provide is a radio promo guy, person to clear records, person to this and that. You can hire you own people or independent companies. You cut out them out, you make more money, especially if you have 360° deal. Labels don't do much of anything, but minimal administrative stuff. No street teams. No connections to local DJs. No artist development. No traditional A&Rs. No real marketing strategies. They rely on you do promote yourself and your own music. They just distribute it to the outlets. I can keep on going about this.

Uptown was the "lit" label back then. And if u really look at it, Uptown was the seed for . Uptown started it all, then Diddy took it to another level, by spinning it off with the legendary Bad Boy Records.
