Happy Labor Day weekend from Wick Fisher White!

Hard work and collaboration are a big part of what we do, but so is taking time to connect, have some fun and enjoy the people we work alongside.

A few members of our team recently did just that at an end-of-summer get-together... a nice way to wrap up the season and spend some time together outside of the office.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Mechanical Engineer, Mikey Phillips, to the Wick Fisher White team!

A recent graduate of the University of Delaware, Mikey is excited to begin his career in MEP engineering. Through a previous internship, he gained hands-on exposure to building operations, including HVAC troubleshooting, equipment inspections and facility maintenance while working alongside facility managers and technicians.

He is excited to build on that background, expand his knowledge of MEP systems and put his problem-solving and design skills to work on real-world projects.

Always looking to learn and improve, Mikey takes pride in working hard and being someone others can count on.

Today, on Building and Code Staff Appreciation Day, we recognize the many professionals who help keep our buildings and communities safe.

Building codes are the foundation of safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable buildings. They protect lives, support communities and guide the systems we design every day.

It takes a lot of people working together to keep these codes up to date and put them into practice—from those who develop and update codes to building officials, plan reviewers, inspectors, engineers, contractors and other industry professionals.

As MEP engineers, we’re happy to do our part by applying these standards to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems we design.

Thank you to all of the building and code professionals for the work you do every day!

That’s why we’re launching Misconceptions vs. Reality, a new series where our engineers share insight and context around the many factors that influence building system design, coordination, and implementation.

Our goal is to offer helpful perspective that supports better understanding and collaboration across project teams.

Last week, Wick Fisher White was thrilled to welcome a group of high school students for our High School Insights Day, led by Senior Project Manager Rachel Innella, PE HFDP, with Senior Project Manager Robert Hughes, PE and Associate Director Jarret Marks, P.E.

Students explored MEP/FP engineering, learned about the tools our engineers use every day, and toured the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia for a behind-the-scenes look at building infrastructure in action.

For Rachel, the day was also about getting to know the students and their goals:

“The Introduction to MEP Engineering Day is as much about showing students how and why we do our job as it is about understanding today’s high school students’ interests, goals, and motivations. We spent a lot of time telling them about our job, but I very much enjoy learning about why these students joined us for the day and how they view their futures in whatever career that ends up being.”
