We have partnered with the at Swarthmore and the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to present Six Triple Eight Day on March 9th at 2pm. Join us on campus to learn about the unit that restored morale to the battlefield during WWII. We will discuss the legislation authored by Napoleon Nelson to make 3/9 a PA holiday (https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hb1806), recognize local descendants of the 6888 and emphasize the impact that black / brown women have on the course of American history.

Our President, Dennis Miller, and Col. Edna W. Cummings visited the George W. Bush Presidential Center to speak with the current cohort. They discussed the legacy of the Congressional Gold Medal winning and the fearless leadership displayed by these Women of War.

The 2024 VLP cohort was focused on vision and communication during our discussion and came to the conversation prepared, having watched the documentary about the battalion. We covered a wide range of topics, centered around the relentless efficiency of the 6888 and the results it bore.

The impact of Veteran leadership is accelerated by programs like the VLP. I am grateful to Bush Center staff for accepting me as a , including me in the study and…most importantly…introducing me to the cohort. Our President, Dennis Miller was honored to present on the part played in the award of the to the Six Triple Eight. While in Dallas, Dennis also attended the , a convening of the four years worth of Scholars that have attended the presented by the Institute.

On the first day of , the highlights the 6888th Central Postal Battalion, the only all female, all Black unit to ever serve in the combat zone. These soldiers are currently 3 co-sponsors away from being awarded the (https://lnkd.in/eBdy4WAd) to recognize their unmatched service to this country during World War II. The paved the way for so many to follow and we salute them for their service.
