With A National Election Just a Few Weeks Away - What Employers and Employees Need to Know

New rules in New York State mean that employees may get to take some paid time off to vote on election day. To find out more, read my latest blog:

Lost in all the noise of this year is that all New York state companies are still required to complete annual sexual harassment prevention training. Working remote does not prevent sexual harassment from happening, it can happen online, electronically via social media, as well as in person. Over a decade ago, my company, Saratoga Human Resources Solutions, Inc. developed a sexual harassment prevention training program that has served our clients well, and that has stood the test of time. In fact, our program not only meets, but actually exceeds the new standards that are now effective in New York. It has been reviewed by top labor law attorneys and received their endorsement. The interactive part of the program comes from real-life examples assembled over a 30 year career. You can read more here on my site: https://hubs.ly/H0wchwm0

Meeting in-person right now is difficult, but our on-line program takes approximately 30 minutes, and is very cost effective. And, we can set up a process where your employees do not pay up front – we simply bill the employer monthly.

There is still a little over three months left to get this done. If you are seeking a solution that is convenient, and saves time and money, give us a call.

Getting Ready to Re_open Your Business?

Wanted to pass along some useful resources as you prepare to re-open your business.
First, NYS will re-open regionally based on the attainment of certain health measures. Find that information here: https://lnkd.in/epcf9U6.

Second, businesses will re-open in phases in those regions that are allowed to re-open. Find that information here: https://lnkd.in/e2tfNf4.

Third, each employer should thoroughly document a worksite safety plan before workers return, and communicate this plan to staff. This will help your employees feel more secure as they come back to work. It will also help you document your efforts if you are questioned about the steps you have taken to safeguard your staff. NYS has provided a template for this safety plan: https://lnkd.in/etRRwGa.

What Does Empathy Mean During a Pandemic?

As I was looking at the messages on LinkedIn and other social media platforms, and reading all of the messages expressing hope that people are well, and staying healthy, I thought that maybe this pandemic is starting to bring out our better angels. We are saluting our healthcare and emergency workers, and rightfully so - the challenges that they face now, and will face in the coming weeks are unprecedented and in many ways, unknown. All of this reminded me of a video that saw a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDDWvj_q-o8.

Let's continue to support those folks who work on our behalf every day, when staying home would be safer. Let's recognize that many businesses have closed, some forever. These businesses were "essential" to their owners and employees, and all of these folks now have uncertain futures. Let's recognize that even when this pandemic is over, our friends, neighbors, loved ones and even strangers will still face challenges and need our love, support, care, generosity and compassion. Let's work to make sure that this pandemic is remembered for the good we did, for those we helped, and for how it changed us for the better.

Patient care is more than just healing -- it's building a connection that encompasses mind, body and soul. If you could stand in someone else's shoes . . . h...

EMPLOYERS!!!! 118 Days Left to Comply with NYS Sexual Harassment Prevention Law!

Each week, we'll give you some information about how to be in compliance with this law by the October 9, 2019 deadline.

This week:

Haven't started yet? Don't know where to begin?

How much does training cost?

Haven't started yet? Don't know where to begin?
Go to the NYS website: https://www.ny.gov/combating-sexual-harassment-workplace/employers. New York State provides all of the materials you need here: Sample Policy, Claim and Investigation Forms, sample training, employer requirements.

Even with all of the information from NYS, you may still want to have someone with expertise assist you with your policy and training:

How much does training cost?
Our live program takes about one hour, and costs $120.00 - no limit on participants! A live trainer also meets the "interactive" requirement for the program. We also have an on-line program that we offer for $15.00, with NO SET-UP FEE. If we do your live training, but some employees could not attend, or you may have new employees join your organization throughout the year, then we charge $10.00 per person for these additional employees.
