I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately about card fees, price increases, and margins getting tighter. I know this topic can get controversial fast — it definitely made me hesitate at first.

I worried about client reactions, whether it would feel awkward, and honestly I kept telling myself “it’s fine, we can write it off on taxes anyway.”

But once I actually sat down and looked at how processing fees add up in a commission salon, the math hit differently. The write-off helps, but it doesn’t really give that money back — it just softens the hit. That was a big shift for me.

I ended up writing a short breakdown that walks through the concerns I had (client reaction, cost, tax deductions, just raising prices, etc.) and what the numbers actually showed me.

Not trying to convince anyone or say there’s one right answer — just sharing what changed my perspective in case it helps someone else thinking through the same stuff.
