Happy 4th of July from Bravo Group Excavation.

The iron sits still today. All of our crews are home with their families — barbecues, fireworks, kids on shoulders. That's exactly where they should be.

We're a veteran-owned company, so this day carries real weight around here. It's not just a day off. It's the founding of the nation some of us wore the uniform for, and the reason we get to build a business, raise our families, and do honest work in Benton, Linn, and Lane Counties.

GROUNDBREAKING — Quarterdeck Apartments, Dallas, Oregon

Bravo Group has broken ground at the Quarterdeck Apartments, and the first work on any site done right isn't excavation — it's erosion and sediment control.

Before a single yard of dirt moves, the silt fence goes in. Perimeter sediment control is what keeps soil on the site and out of the storm system, the streets, and the neighboring properties. It's regulated under Oregon DEQ's 1200-C construction stormwater permit, and Bravo Group is managing the full compliance program for this project — CESCL-led inspections, BMP oversight, and documentation from groundbreaking through final stabilization.

Here's what's coming. Quarterdeck is six multifamily buildings built in three phases, along with the new Pine Street connection between SE Hankel Street and SE Schmidt Drive — new storm drainage, water service, and street improvements for the neighborhood. Bravo Group is performing all earthwork and underground utilities, with roughly six of our people on site through the Summer and completion of our scope in the October timeframe.

We'll be posting progress as the site takes shape — mass grading, storm detention, utility runs, and everything in between.

Proud to be building alongside Baldwin General Contracting, Inc. Good GCs make good projects, and this one is off to a clean start.

Clean joints, tight bends, proper grade the whole way. Perforated pipe where it needs to drain, solid where it needs to carry. Every cleanout capped and every line bedded right before backfill.

Residential Flagstone Prep — Getting the Base Right

Flagstone is only as good as what's under it. This homeowner is getting ready to install roughly 2,500 square feet of flagstone paving, and Bravo Group handled the groundwork.

The owners had a concrete curb installed to hold a clean border around the entire flagstone area. Our scope: excavate the full interior of that curb to grade, then backfill with 8 inches of 3/4"-minus crushed quarry rock — the right base material for this job. The fines in minus rock lock the base tight under compaction, so the flagstone sits on a surface that won't shift, settle, or pump water.

Around the outside of the curb, we placed sandy loam so the owners have a proper planting bed ready for landscaping right up to the border.

Dig it right, base it right, and the finished surface performs for decades. That's the part of the job nobody sees — and the part that matters most.

🪨 ¾-Inch Minus Explained: What Your Gravel Quote Is Really Telling You

If you've ever received a quote for a driveway, building pad, or parking area, you've probably seen terms like ¾-inch minus, 1½-inch minus, or drain rock.

Most people have no idea what those terms actually mean—and choosing the wrong material can cost you thousands in future repairs.

Here's the simple explanation:

✅ ¾" Minus
A mixture of everything from ¾-inch rock down to stone dust. Those smaller particles (called fines) fill the voids between larger rocks, creating a dense, stable base that compacts exceptionally well.

✅ Clean Drain Rock
Contains no fines. Water flows freely through it, making it ideal for French drains, retaining walls, septic systems, and other drainage applications—but it's usually the wrong choice beneath a driveway or building pad.

The biggest misconception we hear?

"Rock is rock."

It isn't.

The proper aggregate depends on:
