Markets are dealing with several uncertainties at once today:

Higher oil prices.

Geopolitical tension.

A Federal Reserve decision.

And questions about whether enormous investments in artificial intelligence will generate equally enormous returns.

This is exactly why a financial plan should not depend on predicting the next headline correctly.

The purpose of planning is not to eliminate uncertainty.

It is to make sure uncertainty does not force you into a decision that compromises the life you are trying to build.

A client asked me this week…

“Why was my account down when the market was up?”

The answer was simple: the account values were a day behind.

But that wasn’t the real question.

The real question was:

“Do I have enough money set aside for a large expense that’s coming up?”

That’s what I love about financial planning.

The first question is often about the numbers.

The real question is usually about confidence.

I've learned that ”boring” doesn't necessarily mean ”bad.” In fact, many of the businesses that quietly serve their communities every day have characteristics investors dream about—recurring customers, steady demand, and resilience through economic cycles.
