Today I experienced a new low in US/'Merican culture (iykuk). Part of my job entails interviewing and hiring political canvassers for my team. I have been provided a list of applicants by the campaign who have submitted resumes on Indeed.
I contacted a person, asked about their experience and was "informed" as to how we live in an oligarchy, the Party system is broken, and what do we do. I start to explain we go door to door with a list; I am then told how we are harassing people and this person began to use quite a bit of disjointed profanity. I speak over this person, saying I am terminating the call. This person then starts to text me, threatening me personally if I come to her home or call again. I had to threaten to turn over the text thread to authorities to induce this person to stop their actions (these types invariably are afraid of the threat of Police and/or exposure).
Why am I posting this?
We have reached a point in US Society where a person will spend their most valuable resource-TIME-to randomly harass someone. As this person made threats via text, they have left themselves open to prosecution. This is beyond stupid. And so I ask whomever is reading this to PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR POLITICALLY DIFFERENT NEIGHBOR. They are not a traitor or socio/psychopath. They have a different worldview, for whatever reason. Stop dehumanizing people with ad hominem attacks-STOP INSULTING PEOPLE! Otherwise the events that occured on a day in January will become MUCH larger, but also the norm. That means wholesale partisan violence, which no sane person truly wants.
