A career can evolve across employers, titles, and responsibilities while retaining an identifiable area of expertise.

But that continuity should come from the evidence. The petition should not force unrelated career phases into one story simply for convenience.

Filing should not be the first real review.

Too many professionals wait until the petition is being prepared to discover the gaps.
⠀
⚠️ The judging evidence is thin.
⚠️ The membership is not selective enough.
⚠️ The press is too promotional.
⚠️ The recommendation letters are too general.
⚠️ The original contribution is not documented clearly.
⚠️ The critical role sounds important internally but has weak external context.
⠀
That is a painful time to learn the record is not ready.
⠀
A better approach is to review the profile earlier.
⠀
Ask:
⠀
➤ What would USCIS question?
➤ What looks rushed?
➤ What looks independent?
➤ What evidence supports more than one criterion?
➤ What sounds impressive but does not prove much?
➤ What is missing from the public record?
➤ What needs time to become stronger?

This is why profile review matters.
Not because it guarantees an outcome.
Because it helps you see the record before the record is tested.

That is especially important after the October Visa Bulletin.
Dates move.
Categories tighten.
But evidence still takes time.

But why were you invited?

A membership can be useful.
But what does it say about your standing?

A publication can be useful.
But does it connect to your field of expertise?

A speaking engagement can be useful.
But was it credible, relevant, and tied to your work?

The activity is not enough.
The context matters.
⠀
Real career evidence usually has a reason behind it.
⠀
You were invited because of expertise.
You were selected because of contribution.
You were cited because your work mattered.
You were asked to judge because your field recognizes your judgment.
You were featured because there was something credible to say.

Box-checking skips that.
It asks:
“What can I get quickly?”

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝-𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬:
“What makes sense for the professional I already am and the case I may need to prove?”

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦: a set of strategies is in equilibrium when no player can improve their outcome by changing strategy alone while everyone else's strategy remains fixed.

EB-1A adjudication is not a Nash equilibrium, but the analogy highlights a useful problem.

If a template could describe hundreds of applicants equally well, it is not explaining what distinguishes your evidence.

The answer is not novelty for novelty's sake. It is case-specific evidence and reasoning.

I spend a lot of time asking people to build extraordinary lives. It is worth occasionally asking whether I am still doing the same.

Later this month, I am traveling to Tibet, Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash.

Not for a conference.
Not for a credential.
Not because it belongs on a résumé.

And not to prove anything.

Much of my work involves people pursuing something that, at first, can feel beyond their reach.

I ask them to examine the evidence of their lives differently. To tolerate uncertainty. To keep building when the outcome is not guaranteed. And sometimes, to question the limits they have quietly accepted for themselves.

There is an obligation that comes with asking other people to do that.

I should be willing to keep doing it myself.

Lake Manasarovar sits approximately 4,590 meters above sea level. Reaching it requires preparation, acclimatization and respect for circumstances I cannot control.

But for me, this journey is about something quieter.

It is an opportunity to leave behind, briefly, the world of petitions, evidence, achievements, titles and outcomes and ask a more fundamental question:

Who are we becoming while we are so busy trying to become extraordinary?

There is something I have learned from coaching people pursuing EB1A.

Extraordinary ability is rarely created at the moment somebody decides to prove it.

Usually, the evidence was being created long before that.

A decision to contribute.
A difficult problem solved.
Work that mattered.
A rejection survived.
An opportunity pursued before there was any certainty it would lead anywhere.

Eventually, those fragments begin to form a record.

Perhaps our inner lives work the same way.

Perhaps the experiences that change us most do not announce themselves as achievements while we are living them.

I don’t know what I will find at Manasarovar or what I will feel when I first see Mount Kailash.

And I don’t want to manufacture that answer before I get there.

For once, I would rather arrive without one.

Because anyone who spends his life being a coach should occasionally return to being a student.

And perhaps the most extraordinary mindset is not believing that you have arrived.

It is remaining willing to be changed.

I will tell you what the mountains taught me when I return.

An RFE is not literally a repeated game, but the analogy is useful.

Claims made in the initial petition remain relevant when responding to later questions. Overstated or inconsistent claims can make a later response more complicated.

𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐛: Draft round one as if every claim may be revisited.

A media opportunity may need the right angle and timing.

But six months can still create real progress.

By the end of a serious build, you should have more clarity on:

✅ Your field of expertise
✅ The criteria that actually fit your profile
✅ The gaps that need ex*****on
✅ The evidence that already exists
✅ The story your attorney may eventually need to present
✅ The difference between useful activity and random activity

That clarity matters.

Because many professionals waste a year doing things that feel productive but do not strengthen the record.
⠀
They chase credentials.
They copy what another applicant did.
They pursue activities that do not match their field.
They build evidence that does not connect.

The pattern matters more than one document.

⚠️ A judging invite three weeks before filing.
⚠️ A membership joined last month.
⚠️ A press article that reads like it was bought.
⚠️ A sudden cluster of activity right before the petition.

Each piece may look harmless on its own.
Together, they can look like a package.
And packages invite questions.

That is why EB-1A preparation should not start with:
“What can I collect fast?”

It should start with:
“What record am I building over time?”

There is a difference between a real career record and a filing sprint.

A real record has sequence.
Your work leads to recognition.
Recognition leads to invitations.
Invitations lead to judging, speaking, press, or membership.
Those activities point back to a consistent area of expertise.

A rushed record often skips the connective tissue.
It checks boxes without explaining why those boxes belong to the same professional story.
