Palm pruning season is upon us! But can we stop to appreciate these gorgeous full crowns and spectacular plumes first? A few things to keep in mind: 1. Only dead fronds and flower spikes should be removed, removing green fronds can lead to nutrient deficiencies- prune at 9 &3 o’clock; 2. puts the palm at risk of desiccation going into the hot dry season, 3. Increases risk of disease transmission through pruning gear. Remember to ALWAYS hire a professional who has adequate insurance and training (it is a very dangerous job), and ask if they use proper sanitation procedures between properties. The last photo is what NOT to do.

Have you aerated your lawn this year? Pulling plugs can help alleviate compaction, helping oxygen to reach the roots of the grass, improving health and vigor going into summer. We like to apply soil amendments and an organic fertilizer immediately after to help invigorate growth for a beautiful unhealthy transition.
