September is a wonderful time to recognize and celebrate the incredible Senior Centers that help keep our communities connected!

From educational programs and resource fairs to lunches, exercise classes, bingo, movies, crafts, day trips, and—let's be honest—a little friendly competition over that bingo card 😉—senior centers provide so many opportunities to learn, laugh, socialize, and make new friends.

But behind every activity, meal, event, and welcoming smile is a dedicated team working hard to make it all happen.

To the directors, coordinators, volunteers, instructors, and staff who create these welcoming spaces: thank you! Your commitment to keeping older adults active, informed, supported, and connected makes a difference every single day.

Research For Life is grateful for the many senior centers and communities that have welcomed us through their doors and allowed us to provide education and resources to their residents.

Meet The Team Monday!

My name is Thomas, and I am a Community Outreach Coordinator. I truly love what I do. I have the privilege of advocating for a company that I genuinely believe in, respect, and am proud to represent.

Being out on the road and serving communities throughout Arizona is such a blessing. Before stepping into this role, I came from a background in audio recording and owned my own business. Those experiences taught me so much about communication, understanding people, and connecting with individuals from all different walks of life. I never expected those skills to translate so meaningfully into working with donors and their families, and has become an incredibly important part of what I do.

What means the most to me is knowing that the work I do has a real purpose. Being part of an organization that can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families, contributing to a better quality of life for my own children and my family, is something I never take for granted.

I love my family more than anything and being able to come to work every day knowing that I am supporting them while also doing something meaningful and impactful gives me an incredible sense of purpose. Being a parent is the greatest privilege of my life, and right alongside that is the opportunity to do work that I can believe in and be proud of.

I am truly grateful for where I am, for the people I get to meet along the way, and for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others while building a better future for the people I love most.

Tuesday was an amazing day at the Garnet of Casa Grande. Our team educated residents on whole-body donation and no-cost cremation, our Co-CEO presented on Financial Wellness and Community Outreach hosted karaoke and got to sing with a few residents.

Meet the Team Monday!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Peter Gallegos, and I am the Outreach Coordinator for Research for Life in Southern California.

I have an extensive background in healthcare, beginning my career in Medicare and Medi-Cal sales and contracting. Over the years, I have also worked in the hospice arena and have been fortunate to work with some of the top healthcare companies in Southern California, including Prudential, Aetna, and HealthCare Partners.

My goal has always been to serve our underserved communities and to provide the best possible care and knowledge to potential patients and their families.

On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my wife. As foodies, we make it a point to try a new restaurant at least once a month.

Meet the Team Monday.

Meaghan Skurdahl is the Client Services Supervisor at Research For Life and has been a member of the team since August 2022. She is passionate about the organization’s mission and strongly believes that body donation is fundamental to advancing medical research, improving patient outcomes, and providing surgeons with the hands-on training needed to refine their skills and techniques.

In her role, Meaghan enjoys building relationships with clients and collaborating with researchers, physicians, and educators around the world. She feels honored to play even a small part in supporting medical research and innovation, helping facilitate projects that contribute to the advancement of medicine and ultimately benefit future patients. For her, knowing that each donor has chosen to leave a legacy that helps others learn, discover, and heal makes the work especially meaningful.

Outside of work, Meaghan shares her home with her fiancé, Avel, whom she has been with for six years, along with three cats, her dog Muffin, and several aquariums full of beloved fish, shrimp, snails, and corydoras. Some of her favorite aquatic companions are Tofu, Blueberry, Sesame Jr., and Egg Roll, who have all earned a special place in her heart. She is an avid animal lover and regularly visits her aunt’s plant nursery and exotic bird rescue, where she has formed a special bond with Nelly, a Harlequin Macaw who has become one of her favorite companions over the years.

When she isn’t at work, Meaghan enjoys reading, playing video games, gardening, and tending to her pepper garden. Whether she is caring for animals, growing plants, or helping support the next generation of medical advancements, she finds fulfillment in learning new things and caring for the people and creatures around her.
