Why Do Small, Specialized Importers Still Matter?

In an industry where growth is often measured by volume, we believe there is another metric that matters just as much.
The strength of the relationships behind the business.

At Passport Destilados, we don't compete by trying to represent the largest number of brands or move the most bottles possible.

We compete through relationships.

We visit producers in their communities.
We take the time to understand their processes, their families, their traditions, and the people behind every bottle.

Then we bring that knowledge into the U.S. market.

We work with distributors, support restaurants and retailers, educate teams, and help create meaningful experiences around the brands we represent.

For a small producer, having access to the U.S. market is only the beginning. Building awareness, finding the right partners, educating consumers, and developing sustainable demand are what create long-term opportunity.

That's where a specialized importer can make a difference.

Our role is to be more than a link in the supply chain.
We aim to be a strategic partner helping producers grow while giving distributors, retailers, restaurants, and consumers access to authentic Mexican spirits with a story and a purpose.

We believe the future of craft spirits won't be built by volume alone.

It will be built through knowledge, trust, relationships, and shared growth.

EL LLORÓN. MEZCAL MEXICANO.

A bold expression of Mexico, crafted with tradition and character.

From the hands of Maestro Mezcalero Juan Diego Méndez Gómez, El Llorón Mezcal Mexicano brings together traditional craftsmanship and a vibrant sensory profile.

Produced through a carefully controlled process of autoclave cooking, shredding and electric milling, fermentation in pine wood vats, and double distillation first in copper and then in a food grade stainless steel alembic this expression is bottled at 45% ABV for a more pronounced character.

On the nose, tangerine takes the lead. The palate unfolds with layers of mango, tangerine, lemongrass, green apple, pineapple, passion fruit, and a subtle touch of yogurt.
The finish adds delicate notes of dark chocolate, balanced by a smooth and pleasant alcohol presence.

More than a spirit, El Llorón represents the connection between Mexican tradition, mezcal craftsmanship, and the people behind every bottle.

El Llorón Mezcal Mexicano.
A taste of Mexico with a story worth sharing.

Some of the world's finest mezcals begin with a decision to wait.

During our recent visit to Meztlán's agave fields in Santiago Matatlán, Maestro Mezcalero Ignacio Santiago shared one of the traditions that makes exceptional mezcal possible: the capón agave.

When an agave is ready to flower, it naturally sends its energy into growing a towering stalk called the quiote.
But for a capón agave, the quiote is carefully cut before it fully develops, allowing the plant to redirect all of its energy back into the heart of the agave.

The result is months or even years of additional maturation, creating higher concentrations of natural sugars and producing richer, deeper, and more complex flavors.

It's a practice that demands patience, experience, and trust in nature.
It also comes with risks.
Producers wait longer to harvest, exposing the agave to weather, pests, and time.
That's why mezcales made from capón agaves are often considered some of the rarest and most sought after expressions.

During our visit, Ignacio showed us a special parcel of mature capón agaves that are finally ready to be harvested. The mezcal from this harvest will become a truly limited expression one that represents years of dedication, tradition, and respect for the land.

At Passport Destilados, these are the stories we're proud to share because every extraordinary bottle begins long before the first drop is distilled.

Some traditions can't be rushed. Neither can greatness.

More than just a mezcal, Meztlán is the legacy of four generations of a family dedicated to preserving the mezcal making traditions of Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca the World Capital of Mezcal.

Every bottle is crafted through traditional artisanal methods, responsibly harvested agaves, and a deep respect for the land, Zapotec heritage, and the people who make it all possible.

Produced in small batches, each harvest offers a distinctive character that can never be replicated.

That commitment to authenticity has earned international recognition, including a Silver Medal for Meztlán Arroqueño at the 2024 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles a testament to the patience, craftsmanship, and passion behind every drop.

Meztlán doesn't just share the taste of Oaxaca, it shares its history, its people, and the pride of crafting mezcal with heart and soul. 🌿🥃

Last week, we spent four unforgettable days walking the streets of Oaxaca during one of its most meaningful celebrations: La Guelaguetza.

More than a festival, Guelaguetza is the heart of Oaxacan culture.

Celebrated every July, it brings together the eight regions of Oaxaca in a vibrant expression of music, dance, food, artisan crafts, and traditions that have been passed down for generations.

The word Guelaguetza means cooperation, offering, and a commitment of mutual support between people and communities.

Its origins trace back to ancient Indigenous ceremonies honoring Centéotl, the goddess of corn, celebrating gratitude, abundance, and the bonds that unite communities.

As we walked through the colorful streets, surrounded by parades, traditional cuisine, handcrafted art, and of course, mezcal, we were reminded that Oaxaca's greatest treasure is not only what it produces but the people who keep its traditions alive.

At Passport Destilados, every visit to Oaxaca strengthens our commitment to those families, communities, and maestro mezcaleros who dedicate their lives to preserving this extraordinary heritage.

We are proud to bring authentic Oaxacan mezcal to the United States, carrying with every bottle not only exceptional craftsmanship, but also the spirit of Guelaguetza a spirit of generosity, unity, respect, and shared purpose.

Because every mezcal tells a story.
And every story begins with the people who preserve the traditions of Oaxaca.

Last Sunday, we had the privilege of visiting the palenque of Ignacio Santiago Gutiérrez, maestro mezcalero, founder, and owner of Meztlán Mezcal, in the heart of Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca.

Ignacio welcomed us like family and guided us through every step of his production process. Every detail reflected the patience, discipline, and dedication required to craft an exceptional mezcal.

As we walked through the palenque, he shared stories, traditions, local legends, and the pride he feels in carrying forward generations of mezcal making heritage.
One conversation, however, stood out above all.
As we discussed the upcoming launch of Meztlán's new one liter presentation.

Ignacio shared something deeply personal. Years ago, his grandfather planted a very special agave field with love, dedication, and the hope that one day it would become an extraordinary mezcal.

Today, after years of waiting, that agave has reached maturity.
Soon, it will be harvested to create a limited edition batch unlike any other.
The greatest honor wasn't hearing about the project.

It was hearing that Passport Destilados had earned Ignacio's trust to help bring this once in a generation harvest to life and share it with the world.

Trust like this cannot be bought.
It is earned through relationships, respect, and a genuine commitment to the families behind every bottle.

We are proud to honor that trust and the ancestral work that began with Ignacio's grandfather many years ago.

Because at Passport Destilados, we don't just distribute mezcal.
We help preserve legacies. 🇲🇽🥃🤝

This past Saturday, Passport Destilados had the honor of joining the Caballero Mayor family in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, to celebrate their incredible Double Gold recognition at the ACCESS Awards.

More than an event, it was an intimate gathering of family, friends, tradition, and community.
Around a shared table, surrounded by delicious Oaxacan food, exceptional mezcal, heartfelt conversations, and breathtaking views of Santiago Matatlán, we were reminded that every great bottle begins with extraordinary people.

Moments like these are why we continue to travel to Oaxaca, not only to build partnerships, but to build friendships rooted in trust, respect, and a shared passion for preserving mezcal culture.

Congratulations to the entire Caballero Mayor family on this well deserved achievement.
Thank you for opening your doors, sharing your traditions, and making us feel at home.

Behind every award is a family. Behind every bottle is a story worth celebrating. 🇲🇽🥃

The Story Begins in Oaxaca.
Every great spirit has a place of origin.
A family, atradition, a community

From Today to July 27, our Founder & CEO, Jimmie Muñoz Jr. returns to the heart of Oaxaca not simply to discover exceptional spirits, but to reconnect with the people and places that give them life.

Over the coming days, we'll take you beyond the bottle and into the stories behind it.

We'll meet producers whose families have preserved their craft for generations. We'll visit villages where mezcal is more than a spirit it's part of everyday life.

We'll walk through agave fields, step inside traditional palenques, explore local markets, experience Oaxacan cuisine, celebrate its culture, and immerse ourselves in the traditions that make this region unlike anywhere else in the world.

We'll also visit Meztlán Mezcal, spend time with a new producer whose brand is currently under consideration to join the Passport Destilados portfolio, and share the journey as it unfolds.

Because this week, the bottles are no longer the main characters. The producers are, the families are, the villages are, the agave fields are, the food, the festivals, the culture, and the people of Oaxaca are the story.

At Passport Destilados, we believe authenticity begins long before a bottle reaches the shelf. It begins with relationships, with heritage, and with the communities that have dedicated generations to preserving these traditions.

Every bottle tells a story. This week, you'll meet the people who write it.🇲🇽

We're excited to introduce Riablo's new 1-liter presentation, now crafted with 5% more alcohol, delivering an even bolder expression of the authentic character of sotol while preserving the artisanal methods and traditions that define every bottle.

This week, Riablo Sotol begins another important journey from the rugged landscapes of Chihuahua, Mexico, to shelves, restaurants, and bars across Arizona and Louisiana.

Large shipments are now making their way to our retail and hospitality partners, including Testal Restaurant, where more consumers will have the opportunity to discover one of Northern Mexico's most distinctive spirits.

This is more than distribution.
It's culture in motion.
It's tradition crossing borders.
It's another step toward bringing the spirit of Northern Mexico to more people than ever before.🌵🥃
